I am sorry your having so many problems.
I too believe your allergic to the tylenol in the norco. There are many medication you can take that have none and will work better. If your going to be taking pain meds for an extended period of time it is best to avoid using the ones with tylenol anyways because of the risk of liver damage. This is why the extended release meds are so popular for those who will be taking these kinds of meds for a long time. I would suggest talking to your Dr about your options and having him/her put you on an extended release medication and see how it works for you. There are also additional meds you can take for your stomach along with your pain meds.
Good luck and keep us posted!
Hi annamarie,
I'm glad you found us at MedHelp. We welcome you to our membership.
I am not a physician but your response to Norco sounds more like an allergic reaction to hydrocodone, which would mean you should avoid anything with hydrocodone such as the following:
Brand Names: Anexsia, Dolorex Forte, Hycet, Liquicet, Lorcet, Lortab, Maxidone, Norco, Polygesic, Stagesic, Vicodin, Xodol, Zydone
Are you taking a medication routinely to avoid stomach distress such as Pepcid, Zantac or Prilosec? If not I would check with my PCP and see if this is an option. I have to take Prilosec twice a day to avoid gastrointestinal issues. I would consider taking something to control stomach upset before I would go to the "patch drugs" as they are the "Big Dogs." If your pain can be control with a lesser drug I would treat the stomach issues before moving up the ladder. And I tried a "patch drug" and it make me more nauseated than oral medications.
I understand your concern on "ruining your body" so you can no longer take med. I think you will be OK if you treat the stomach issues. Our gastric system is pretty tough if we take care of it, never take meds on an empty stomach unless you are instructed to do so. I have learned how to treat my GERD and hiatal hernia and still take oral pain medications. I am confident that with a little education and assistance from your PCP you will be able to do so also.
Please keep us posted and take care, Tuck
