Ran out early...I NEVER run out early!

So I had to call my neuro today and request 2-3days early on a 30 day refill for Norco 10 2x a day...because of the low frequency and the length of time i don't THINK it's going to be a problem...coupled with the fact that I NEVER NEVER NEVER go early...

but I cracked my front tooth the other day :(. I've always ground that tooth because my jaw doesn't line up completely and when I have a headache I clench/grind my teeth and that tooth has always taken the brunt....so I guess it's been weak..and my 2 year old was having a hissy fit the other day and chucked a bottle over her shoulder which promptly smacked me in the mouth and chipped the tooth..so my entire face and head have been throbbing. I am getting in to see a dentist hopefully next week (bad timing with the holiday) but for now I called my neuro to see if he's willing to prescribe a few days early...like I said, I THINK he will but I'm kinda anxious about it...I can survive without it but I'm really just tired of one painful thing after another happening...last month it was kidney stones and surgery, this month it's a broken tooth....and that's not even mentioning the daily headaches.

I just want to catch a break and I know everyone here can relate. I guess I don't have a question but I need some support to get through until my neuro calls back (yes, I'm a wuss...yes I realize this, lol) and hoping he's willing to be my angel today. I'm so humiliated about the tooth...I don't really consider myself vain but every time I look in the mirror I just cry and cry...I've always had great teeth and now I just look...well, wrong.

Thanks in advance guys...feeling down today. and anxious!

I'm SOOOO happy for you that everything has worked out for you!!!!  PLEASE stay out of the way of "Flying Sippy Cups and Bottles" - you DON'T need anymore dental emergencies as this one, I'm sure, hurts enough for a LIFETIME.  LOL

Please keep us posted as to how your Dental appointment goes.....Mama Sherry

Thanks so much mama sherry! in the 10ish years that I've been with him he's never done a UA...and he knows all about the other meds I have and has told me "do what it takes to avoid having to go to the ER...they're germ cesspools" lol, so I'm not too worried about that.

The good news is...the nurse just called to say that he approved the early refill :). I'm relieved...and a few dental places I've been talking to about payment plans just got back to me all within the same 10 minutes. the bad part of all this? I had to untangle 2 small children from a hair-pulling match and snatch a sippy cup mid-toss while trying to work all of this out on the phone, lol....my 2 babysitting charges were just dropped off at the same time that everyone and their mother decided to call me.

anyway..I'm totally relieved...once again my fears were unfounded. I don't know that I'll ever be comfortable calling my doc to talk about pain management though..is this anxiety normal? does anyone else go through it?

Hi Ashelen,

I'm so VERY sorry that you had the mishap with the bottle!!!  Little Ones will ALWAYS surprise you whether it's in a GOOD way or a NOT so Good way.  :)

Please be sure that you don't take something that might giv you problems with a UA test IF your PM Doctor gives them.  I think your best bet is what you did by calling your Doctor and laying it out to him.  I'm sure that he/she will understand.  After all - like the Nurse said it is TECHNICALLY your head!!!

Peek - you KNOW that your Doctor would have taken them - PROBABLY more than YOU did!!!  LOL

Please keep us updated so that w know how it goes......Mama Sherry

aw poor Peek that sounds horribly painful....and yeah of course he had to take the official stance but you KNOW he would've done the same thing, lol.

Well when I had my kidney stones I already had a script of norco from him and the urologist gave me more of the same...my neuro just told me to take what I needed to take of his script for the kidney stones and then go fill the next script...so I know he's understanding about having to use meds for more than one purpose...and like I said, I NEVER go early. the last time I went early it was probably 4 years ago..when I FIRST started having to use PM.

and it is miffing...I shouldn't have to worry as a law-abiding, rule-following PM patient but all the drug-seekers and abusers have made it fudgy for all of us.

my neuro tends to be understanding though..so I'm hopeful...have to see though :-/. The pain hurts so bad I just had to take a 7.5 percocet that i had lying around..I know that self-medicating is bad but OWWWW and I can't in until next week...I'm babysitting for a friend today (yes the woman whose kids I'm watching knows that I take pain meds and that I had to take them today...I called to let her know..she's known about me having to take pain meds for years and she has to take them as well so she doesn't worry about me, lol) but I HAVE to get through today...I'm not entirely out of the Norco yet but I'm trying to be miserly with it so I DON'T end up with nothing..I will be out soon either way. I still have several different meds lying around from previous conditions (percocet, tylenol #3, and dilaudid) that I don't want to take because I don't like to self-medicate...but I mean if I run out of the Norco I won't be COMPLETELY without something to help...but I really want to work this out with the Norco I really don't like to self-medicate at all.

sorry for the ramble and I apologize for any typos my 4-month-old is hammering away at my keyboard lol. I hope the neuro's office calls soon...Just trying to keep my mind occupied until I find out from the neuro. I always worry when I have to call about my meds for any reason.

I told my PM guy once about having a severely infected tooth over a weekend, and how I had to take TWO Norco 10's every 4 hours all weekend to get through the agony.   My face was swollen to the level of my eye, for Gods sake.

He started spouting off that the Norco's are ONLY for my back pain, shouldn't have taken them for anything else (I wasn't even asking for a refill...I was just telling him).

I looked at him with distain and said "If you are telling me that you'd sit there for a whole weekend with an agonizing, bulging, infected huge a$$ infected tooth and NOT take a Norco when you have a whole bottle in front of you...I'm going to call BS on that one".

He laughed and said I was right, but he "had" to tell me the official stance.  All was good, but I was miffed about it.
