I'm guessing your in Australia yeah? Panadeine forte is used widely hear in Oz.
As panadeine forte contains a fair whack of codeine (an opiate/narcotic) and tramadol is structually very similar to an opiate/narcotic - I would be very cautious of mixing the two. Tramadol is so similar that it has a lot of the same side affects and and some are serious - respiratory deperession comes to mind - so if you took the two together you'd get a double whammy of these side affects.
I wouldn't imagine a doctor would prescribe this due to this reason (and also you wouldn't probably wouldn't be asking this on a msg board you would have just checked with the doc)
I've seen a lot of patients (im a nurse) be prescribed tramadol and paracetamol together - or tram and a NSAID - but never tram and an opiate.
Be careful.
I would not advise combining those 2 medication unless strongly recommended by your Physician. If I was you. I would not do it at all. It is risky to take 2 strong pain medications. What dr prescribed this? Wow.
Hi Mussy,
I am guessing that you are not living in the USA. Panadeine forte is not prescribed in the USA to my knowledge.
I wold not mix these two medications without consulting your physician.
Take Care,
