What is causing the back pain? Are they treating it in the dark and just guessing? I had my internist tell me that I had a little bit of arthritis. I knew it wasn't a little bit of anything. After countless physicians, chiropractors, specialists, I found I had MS. The backache was caused from weak legs. Make sure you have a dx and are not just being fed meds.
Just my opinion as a pain patient who's been trying to taper to see where my pain is without the meds: research everything and make your decisions informed. There are good doctors, bad doctors, and good and bad pain management centers. If you trust your doctor and trust yourself, you should be okay. But there can be dependence/tolerance issues when you're on narcotics for a long time. My taper has been difficult due to getting a really bad stomach bug and not being able to take my meds. It's not something I ever thought could happen, nor did my doctor. And in truth, I probably tried to come down from a lot of medicine too quickly. Everyone is different and some people do fine; others don't. Just try to make sure you KNOW exactly what you're taking and all the affects, both positive and negative. I've never misused meds or ran out early but still find myself dealing with the physical aspect of withdrawals and it's not fun.
Back pain is debilitating. Do you use anything else for the pain? Ice, heat? Lidoderm patches, prescription creams, ibuprofen? I piece together a lot of things to help with pain. Heat works better for me than cold, but some people swear by ice. Have you had any epidural injections or other procedures? There's lots of things that help. (My dad was crippled with back pain most of his life and wound up having a surgery in his fifties that changed his life!!! He's now nearly 83 and only has mild back pain here and there.)
Best of luck.
i take 7.5-200 and i was prescribed them, i take 4 a day. i have had back pain for over a year.
Sorry, it was supposed to read "how long" have you had the lower back pain - NOT WHY - you were prescribed the medication. (I had a "brain Freeze" there.) :)
Hi cats101,
First, I want to welcome you to the Pain Management Forum and let you know that we are glad you found this Forum. I want to let you know that there are NO Doctors on this Forum, only CP {Chronic Pain} Patients that help each other with our OWN expertise and experiences that we have developed through our OWN CP Issues.
I'm sorry that you ALSO suffer from Lower Back Pain. I've suffered with it for more years than I care to count. :) You didn't give much information such as what strength your prescription is, how many pills you are taking each day, etc. You also didn't state why you were prescribed the medication. That would help with the answer to your question.
Three weeks isn't very long BUT the strength and amount can make a difference.
I'll be looking for your update. Good Luck..........Sherry
I am currently addicted to pain killers and the best advice I can give you is only take them as directed and as needed. If you start to feel the need to have them even when you're not in pain or just because you want to feel good, you're starting to get addicted and you need to stop taking them and talk to your doctor ASAP. These things are extremely addictive and even harder to get off so please do what your doctor says and you shouldn't be in my situation. I hope I helped you before its too late.
