I had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in my lung and they removed the right upper lobe of my lung and the pain managment doctors feel they injured a nerve doing this.  I have pain in  my back and it is at time very severy and then at other times I am fine.  Is there meds for this?

I am on gabapetin, but it only last a few hours.  I also have to take oxycodin as I take the gabapetin only every 6 hours and it does not last that lone.  I want to get off the oxy. as I do no want to become addicted to it.  Is there any meds that are better then gabapetin???  thanks for listening to me.  Norma

Yes, certainly! If you have pain management doctors they should be able to help you out. Of course there are general pain releivers, but there are also pain releivers more specific for nerve pain. They could probably arrange to give you a certain, stronger, medication to take on the days your pain is more severe. You can also ask if you are a canidate for a nerve block, which basically de-activates the nerve. But definitely I encourage you to continue to advocate for good pain management, as no one should have to live in pain :)

Hi norma,

First I want to welcome you to the Pain Management Forum and let you know that we are glad you found this Forum. I want to let you know that there are NO Doctors on this Forum only CP - Chronic Pain - Patients that help each other with our OWN expertise and experiences that we have developed through our OWN CP Issues.

I'm sorry to hear of your bout with Cancer.  I HOPE that you have a good prognosis regarding your recovery.  :)

Yes, there are specific medications that they use for nerve pain.  I'm on one called Gabapentin but there are MANY more for your Doctor's to choose from.  Have they suggested any to you yet?  You need to go to them and ASK for something for your nerve pain that you are suffering from.  There's ABSOLUTELY no need for you to suffer ANYMORE!!

PLEASE let us know what your Doctor's tell you as we are VERY concerned for you and how your pain is doing.  :)

I'm looking forward to your FIRST update...................Sherry  :)
