questionable practices

OK, I live in TN and in my area no doctor will give narcotics...so you immediately go to a pain clinic..let me give you some background..we moved down from Indiana where I had a m.d who treated my fibro/cfs, chari malformation which causes migraines and depression all at one visit.. one of my meds was morphine...this is where my problem came when we moved south..so I go to this pain clinic, the only one in 100 miles and it is run by a nurse practitioner.,  OK...she seen me, seen what meds I had brought from Indiana and just gave me new scripts and lidocaine shots in my neck for migraines and sent me on my merry way...the next month,,,urine test and I was told there would be random drug counts...where they call you and you either bring your meds to them to count or the nearest pharmacy, OK...never did that in Indiana but I was OK... 6 months later, all urine test come back fine, she never changed my meds regardless if I said I had any problems, more lidocaine shots, I go home to Indiana to visit the children and while gone they call me at home in TN and leave a msg for a pill count.. I didnt get the msg until I come home 3 weeks later, so because I came home the day before my appointment I thought nothing about it. when I went to my appointment I was told I had a warning because I missed my pill count, even though I explained  the situation, I was told I was to tell them if I leave the state and provide a number where I would be at all times... huh...? And my last urine test showed I wasn't taking my morphine which wasn't true, but I was accused of selling it... duh I am 49..anyway just wonder if anyone else every experienced this or hear of it? thanks and sorry for babbling on...

That *****.....You gotta tell me...Was there other things that lead up to this ?....Or did they just pop this on you ?

I dont think anybody does their pain pills exactly perfect...nobody 20 years old or 60 years old.....The PM's know that...

Even though you expected this outcome I am sorry that it happened. If I were you I would be very interested in reading my chart. You have a right to see your records and I would demand a copy of your file now.

I am glad you have a physician that you trust and that trusts you back home. And I agree those "red necks" are wonderful. Good luck to you and keep in touch. Tuck

I went to the pain clinic today and as predicted was "kicked out" because of missed pill count and urine test... I was pretty much given my last scripts and shown the door... i expected nothing less, just glad I am going home...

I live on the other end of the state, and apparently it is pretty bad in this area. not knowing this when we moved here, anyway am going back to  the pain clinic on Monday, probably to be kicked out for good. We are going back to Indiana for  6 months... we live in both states, anyway my Dr in In is aware of the problem and will fix everything when I get home... he wants me to go back and see what they say and if they will give me my scripts to hold me over until eom when we leave.. also said would request their files on me to see what really happened..... will keep y'all posted..... I love it rednecks, I like being a p/t redneck only in the good way though. lol...

I live in east TN, and thankfully my pain doctor is nothing like what has been described.  I'm on Duragesic patches and Oxycodon for break thru pain, they never want to count pills or even drug test me.  I've lived with chronic pain for the past three years after  having a cervical injury.  Your right TN has become really bad for people selling their meds. And of course we can't forget the Meth labs that they seem to be finding even in the finest neighborhoods.  Leave it to the rednecks in TN to screw up the only thing that helps some of us live from one day to the next. I'm sorry you've had so much trouble.

Pain Mgt can be a pain for sure.  I had a great doc who listened to me and would engagein interactive conversations for the purpose of getting my dosages right.  Well he decides to quit the practice and everyting went downhill.  While I was visiting my doc there he never did testing pill counts etc..  when he left they started the random testing thing, which I didn't mind.  But I was floored when they never listened to me, and all I wanted was to move from 7.5 percs to 10 mg percs as I was on the 10's at first they were too strong moved down to the 7.5's for a year and wanted to go back up.  Sheese.  Long story short they kicked me out of the program becuase my test came up negative.  I was po'ed for sure, got my records made an appt at aonther doc.  Well I looked at my records and I didn't come up negative.  I was at the predicted level??  Well it was then that I found out only certain practices are allowed to prescribed the dosages I was on so I wasted money going to that pain mgt doctor and had to make an appt at another, well I had to wait two months for an appointment.  What a crazy system!

Hi I am sorry for the trouble your having. It is a very real problem and the more I research this the more dumbfounded I am. True there are the ones who make it very difficult for us the real pain Pt's and I will not go on with my usual rant about this but there are the ones like you and many others who are going through this. It seems to me the one who are being "fired" for false negative test results are the ones that are the least likely to abuse or sell their medications. Tennessee is tough I lived in Nashville for a couple years and my Dad had a PM there though he wasn't as tough as you describe the Dr kept an eye on his Pt's. I would try and find another PM , I don't know how long it has been since this occurred but there are ways to prove you were taking your meds. I have heard of the pill count too but never encountered it personally I think it is an invasion of privacy because as was said we may take more one day and less the next day. This is pretty common with CP Pt's and the Dr's knows this. When you go back to your previous Dr ask him to refer you to a PM in TN , I am sure he knows someone and a referral is better than going in on your own. You could call him for a referral too if it is going to be awhile and even ask him can he send you a script by mail. When I was living in two states my Dr did this for me several times. I have a very trusting solid relationship with my Dr and he had no problem doing this. If you would like the information on getting test results please let me know. I wish you all the luck and hope things get much better for you.

If you read some of the other post and some older posts you will see many have "failed" and/or experienced inaccurate drug tests. And there is an answer to a recent post from Mollyrae with a website address explaining how one narcotic can appear as another on a drug test. It's metabolism is unusual. I thought that may be of some interest to you. Tuck

This is a perfect example of honest people suffering for the antic's of a few dishonest people. A few times a year I drive through TN and usually spend a nite or two. TN is a beautiful state with friendly people but there prescription drug laws for CP suffers seem to me, to be over the top. My "count" would never be on. One day I may have horrid pain and take an additional pain med, a few days I may have a better day and not take as many as I am prescribed. They all even out for the month. My PCP is aware of how I take my meds and OK with that, what would happen to me in TN.

And if you are kicked out of the clinic  I would remind them that you are new to the state and their laws. You can't change the laws just yet but I would become involved in the changing those laws once you are a resident. I wish you well, thanks for posting again. We'll be waiting for updates. Bless you, Tuck

Sorry I reread your post and noticed you formerly lived in Indiana not OK. I am sorry for that blunder. The other thought I had is can you return to your former doctor in Indiana to obtain your pain meds until you can straighten this out in TN?  Or will your PCP assist you in anyway locating a physician or clinic in Indiana? Usually one medical provider to another carries some weight. Again I am sorry for what you are going through and wish you the best. Please keep us updated. Tuck

I am so sorry for what you are going through. As if we didn't have enough pain without the hoop jumping they are making you go through. I have heard of many strange things on this forum. Ppl are kicked out of pain clinic cause their tests came back with a little something they weren't taking or they came back negative for all opiates when the person swore they took them every day, strange stuff.

I live in WI and though the winters are cold I am glad I am here. And I am rethinking my move to FL, until I find out all the opiate laws there.

It sounds like TN is a very strick controllling state and one I would not want to live in. I suppose there have been a few drug sellers or something similar happen and that is why it has effected all the pain patients. That's the problem, a few ruin it for the many.

Any chance you can move back to OK. I know that wasn't realistic but I bet you feel that way about now. It is early Saturday morning. Others will post with more TN and pain clinic knowledge than I have but weekends tend to be slow.

I will tell you what I have decided to do if I am ever in a clinic or state that drug tests me. And that is the same day I am drug tested I will go elsewhere and have another drug test. That will give me fighting material if the clinic were to come back on me and say my urine came back with something it shouldn't have had in it or visa versa. I wish you luck. Sandee1818 has more information on this than I do and she will be checking posts soon. Again I am very sorry this happened to you. You may "babble on" any time you  want, many of us to it here. Please keep us posted. I wish you luck in your search for answers. Take care. Tuck
