Thank you for your very helpful information. I have an Appt (not until) Aug. 30th, and am really looking forward to it. I will have all my questions in hand. i will keep you posted. Thank you again, Tina
Hi Tina,
I am so very sorry to hear about your situation... all because of a biopsy. These are one of the rare complication that never is suppose to happen to us. My heart goes out to you.
If I understand you correctly this is a nerve that requires have surgery. My surgeon choice would be a neurosurgeon.... one that specializes in feet if possible. When it comes to nerves they are the best, at least in my opinion.
You've asked some good questions. Obviously a surgeon would have the best, most correct answers for you. In my opinion no, you should not lose the use of your foot by any means. You may have some numb areas but you should not lose the feeling in your entire foot. It's also my understanding that you may develop some collateral nerves, a rebuilding of sorts. I doubt this would return your foot to pre-nicked nerve condition but it should be better then what you have now.
You are approaching this in the correct manner. Ask lots of questions, research, read and research some more. Write a list of questions for your surgeon when you have an appointment. Go prepared and try to learn some basic terminology. Don't forget that the surgeon's staff, either the Nurse, PA or whatever will be a great source of information too. I've learned that often I am able to obtain as much, if not more from the physicians, support staff then I do from the physician. I will repeat a question or two to staff that I may have had a bit of trouble digesting from the physician.... or vise versa.
I wish you the very best and a quick and an uneventful healing process. Please let us know how you are doing and what you decide. I will look forward to hearing from you.
Take Care,
~Tuck
