Hi. I'm 48 and had a back inlury 11 yrs ago. A fusion C6/7 Op. Since then back pain relief is a chalange for me. Depending on what your feeling or if you injured yourself depends on how to takle on whats best for you. If you think you did something wrong to yourself you might not even know it. I thought I had just a sprained muscle or spasm and it turned out to be a herniaded disk. Please be carefull. You  could just start with simple pain meds over the counter. Tylenol Extra Strenght kind of helped me. Some ice if it's swolen helps. Somtimes heat. Light streches can help relieve tention. IF YOU EVEN THINK IT'S THERES SOMETHING SERIOUS HED TO E.R.

Hi Bernamarie,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum.

Can you please provide us with additional information. How long has this been occurring? Did you sustain an injury? Have you consulted your PCP? Were you given a DX?

Where is your back pain? Can you describe the pain? What makes it better and what if anything makes it worse.

I'll watch for additional details from you. Pain is never fun and can rob us of sleep and reduce our ability to perform daily activities. I am sorry that you know that too.

Looking forward to your updates.

Hi bernmarie,

First, I want to welcome you to the Pain Management Forum and let you know that we are glad you found this Forum. We are all CP  {Chronic Pain}  Patients that help each other with our own expertise and experiences that we have developed through our own CP Issues.

Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry that you are having problems with your back.  I know how difficult and painful that is. I've had surgery for a ruptured disc in my lower or lumbar part of my back as well as having 2 protruding discs in my neck or cervical part of the back and 3 protruding discs, one is extreme, in the middle or thoracic part of the back.

Back pains are very debilitating as they can hinder you when you stand, walk, sit or lay down.  How long have you been experiencing these pains and where are they located? Does it hurt more when you are sitting down or when you are standing up?  Are they sharp or burning?  Do they go away when you do something such as laying down for awhile?

Do you do a lot of exercising?  Do you play tennis or some other sport that you might have injured it doing? If you don't exercise already, I'd be very cautious about doing any type of exercise now until you back stops hurting since you don't know what's wrong with it.

What have you tried so far that is or isn't helping?  If you have tried the OTC (Over the Counter) Meds and the warm baths and heating pads and none of that is helping you then it's time to consult a Doctor.  Maybe have some x-rays done to be sure that you haven't done anything to seriously injure your back.  Your Doctor will know what to do for you to get the answers that you are seeking.  Chances are you have sprained or strained your back in some way but, as I said, the only way to know for sure, if the pain doesn't stop on it's own, is to check with your Doctor.

I hope that you will keep us updated on your progress and what you find out.  We all tend to be concerned about our MH (MedHelp) Family!!

I'll be looking for you updates and I'm sending Good Thoughts your way........Sherry  :)
