unexplained pain

I have a dull achy pain on my right side right below my ribs. it is not sore to the touch, but every now and then, it just aches, like a mild throb. i have not been to the doctor about it, but in 1999 by grandmother past away with renal cell cancer. she told me only a month before she died that she had a pain on her right side and it scared her. maybe that's why i haven't been to the doctor. she past away within 2 weeks of finding out.
i am not over weight and i do drink socially. i stay active with my 11 year old daughter. i fish, hunt, swim and walk as much as i can.
do you have any ideas about this and should i go see my doctor?

I agree,  instead of imagining the worst go see you doctor. I also agree with the possible GB issue. A non-invasive URQ ultrasound will confirm or rule out  gallstones or sludge. Tell the doctor about your grandmother and they will understand your fears.

It's highly unlikely that you have cancer so try not to scare yourself into not having your pain investigated.  Pain is the body's way of telling us something is wrong, so of course you should see your doctor.  Right-sided pain, particularly in women our age, is pretty classic for a gallbladder problem.  That's just one thing your doctor might want to look at.  Please don't torture yourself with speculation and get it checked out.  :-)
