dark spots on my face

i am 14 year boy, i have dark spots on my cheeks,they give a burning sensation when i go out in sun.Are they due to hard scrrubing or they are sunburns? a doctor prescribed me melaglow. but i stopped using it as i read that it contains steroids. I wanna know this disease and the right cure.

actually he didn't say clearly but gave me the cream of melaglow he advised to not to go out in sun he told that the disease is gonna take a long time to recover.  i consulted another one he gave me MOMETASONE cream IP.  I searched on the net and found that the dark patches are hyper pigmentation or melasma. one more thing this dark brownish area gets darker when i am tensed.
