I am a mother of 4 children. My youngest is 16 months old and started walking when she was 9 months. At about 10 or 11 months I noticed she was dragging her toes on the floor when she walked. At first it was just one foot. As the months have gone by this has grown to be a problem with both feet. It is worse on her left foot. Anytime she is allowed to walk without shoes the tops of her toes become dirty. I can no longer allow her to walk on concrete without shoes due to the scrapes and sores that she receives. All of her shoes end up with scrapes on the front of them. She also trips over her own feet because of this and injures her mouth all the time.
We have continually expressed our concerns with our doctor and she doesn't seem to be alarmed, yet she has never seen this before in a child. She was seen by a orthopedic doctor who said she has internal tibial torsion, and if it had not corrected itself by the time she was 3 to bring her back. The thing that amazes me is that they say the toe dragging is a habbit. I disagree with this.
I also cannot seem to find any other parent who has ever experieced this. Please can you tell me if this is normal or is this something I need to push to have treated.
Thank you,
Misty Vick
