Children and water consumption

What is a realistic amount of water that an 8 year old should be drinking each day. I've heard 5 glasses and I think that is excessive considering they are getting water in so much of their food, fruit and juices. I realize it's a healthy drink choice but 5??  anyone have any common sense advice?

depends on the size of our glass.  It is between 5-8 cups of water.  As a cup is ab out 8 oz.  it should  be about minimum of 40 oz. a day.  If your child pees regularly and it is a light (pale) yellow it will tell you he is doing well.  If he is active he will need that amount.  This has a really good break down for you
