Help with Encopresis

My 8 yr old has encopresis. I am looking for someone out there who has experienced this and has had success with any medication, enemas, etc. I feel awful for her when she has accidents at school. We really need help.

Thanks

hey my future stepdaughter has this (undiagnosed by her pediatrician but my dr gave me reading material). she is 3 1/2yrs old. i think it started in January of this year when my fiance told his exwife (childs mother) that he was taking her to court to establish his parental rights and set up a consistant visitation schedule. I think the mother was upset and the lil girl picked up on it. BUT since there are two sides to every story... The mother thinks its all our fault because we dont make her sit and poop on our days of visitation. long story short... here's the low down:

Lil girl has had manual disimpaction 2x.  Suppositorys.  Enemas every 2wks aprox for like 2months.  potty training helped a little. but of course your son is potty trained so no luck on that one...

But i made a rewards jar for my kid. took a large mouth plain vase from dept store and put her name on it. since she is at our house 3 days every other wkend, i took her 3 monkey bath toys and if she poops she gets a monkey in the jar. If she gets 1 monkey in the jar she gets to watch her "Spider Pig Movie", 2 monkeys she gets to ride her power wheels 4wheeler, 3 monkey and she gets a brand new toy from walmart.

you would have to stretch the days out longer since her is at home all the time, but it works for most of the time.

she sometimes has to sit on the potty for 2hrs. it is horrible having to sit there in the room with her and listen to her scream bloody murder cuz it hurts. she doesnt want to do it and so we have to get REALLY mean and tell her things like... "all the screaming in the world aint gonna get you off of there so you might as well just go poop" or "no, it doesnt hurt. Just push it out." or my all time fave "if you dont poop then me and daddy are going to go to grandma and grandpas and go ride Charlie the mule!" it sounds horrible but as you know there is that despiration point where you will do anything to get them to just go. especially when unlike you (and lucky for you), her mom will call a couple days later wanting to know if she went cuz her belly hurts and then we get blamed even tho her mom will admit to not staying home at night... never having the time to MAKE HER go poop.
any way i hope this helps... there is also a childrens laxitive Brand name is Fletcher's. sold over the counter at Walmart. i found it this wkend... liek i said, we are still fighting it!!

good luck,
Sarah

I have a 8year with encopresis...no help anywhere!!!!   Tried G.I. doctors and mental health community. Nothing helps. The laxatives and scheduled potty regiments are a nightmare! I have searched for help for 3 years with no results.. I have run out of options. We have jumped through all the hoops. Insurance stopped paying for treatment 18 months ago at CHKD . I am in the same boat but my boat is sinking fast.
