baby won't burp/acid reflux

Hello.

My son is 17 days old.  He started having tummy issues this week.

He rarely burps and we've tried different positons but no luck.

Because of the burping issue, he threw up pretty bad.  This led to coughing and congestion which led to us going to the doctor.  The doctor was concerned that he is not gaining weight and suggested he may have reflux.  He told us to wake him up every 2 hours (which he already does) and only feed him 2 oz at a time.  He also suggested elevating his bed.  We go back in a few days to see if there is a real problem with the weight gain issue.

We have done everything the doctor has told us but it doesn't seem to have gotten better.  He projectile vomited despite the 2oz feeding.  I feel soo bad for him.  I feel like I'm doing something wrong.  Maybe it's sleep deprivation but I'm very discouraged.

If anyone has any advice, please let me know.  I am forever grateful for any responses.

Thank you,
Worried, anxious and desperate.

you aren't doing anything wrong, some babies just dont wanna burp like my little boys, sometimes lying baby on his tummy over your knee will help, ive sat up for hours trying to get him to pass wind and no luck, dont worry to much, theres something called infacol and gripe water that helps get their wind up,good infacol can be used any age and gripe water can be used at one month, he'll be fine

After feeding, try lying baby on your lap, face down pointing away from you (i.e.; with his head on your knee looking down, his tummy on your thigh, and his butt and feet at your waist.  While holding him against your leg securely, lift your legs so he is sitting upright, then lower them again until he is flat.  Do it a few times, while patting him on the back.  If you can't do this so soon after pregnancy, ask your husband to.  See if that brings on a burp.

Check in on the breastfeeding forum too, for burping and reflux tips.
