2 year old with severe cough

I have a two year old little boy and very recently he had pink eye. When I took him to the doctor for it, they asked if he had a cough with it and I told them a very slight one. Now the pink eye is gone after being prescribed amoxicillian and now he has a severe cough and runny nose. Is there anything I can do to help ease this for him? He doesn't have a fever. Whenever I call the doctor (his usual one) they tell me there's not really anything they can give him for someone that young. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cold meds are not used for young children studies show they do not help  but some Vicks baby rub may help, rub on his feet'  lots of liquids..the congestion will clear each day .A humidifier may help him breathe .If he is feverish or seems worse take him back to the doctor .good luck
