my 6yr old is constipated

my 6 yr old had a small tear on his anus which bled when he opened his bowels since then he hasn't willingly opened his bowels. The tear has since healed but my gp has said he now has faecal impaction & prescribed Movicol ped at a very high dose. This cleared the block but my son still will not open his bowels. He has leakage quite regular {sometimes 3/4 times a day} he tells me that he 'can't feel it coming out' even when the faeces is formed!. We are still using Movicol but a lower dose but it isn't helping. He's not gone toilet for 11 days now his abdo is swollen & sensitive when touched, his concentration is declining {happens each time constipated}.  Apart from this he is an  active, healthy little boy he eats & drinks well, has fibre added to breakfast everyday, eats fruit etc. I'm at my wits end as all my gp does is prescribe MORE Movicol, this problem has been ongoing for about 3 yrs, we've been using Movicol for nearly 6 months.

thanx 4 getting in touch, i have tried milk of mag it did help him go at the time but he's not going when i stop giving him anything.
We've had hell of wkend with it, my son was crying in pain friday {had 2 collect him from school early it was so bad} He was like a wild cat, screaming when any1 got close, hitting out @ people, totally out of character as he quite a placid child. Went 2 dr, he refused 2 help just said continue with movicol.  It took 11 doses of movicol 2 shift it. He's lost sensation in bowel, isn't feeling the need to go. Today i have phoned a different surgery  hopefully changing dr's will get us the help we desperatly need. Fingers crossed.

Have you tried Milk of Magnesia, that worked with my son.  Also, my doctor had me give him enamas (just last week), he was so constipated.  That forces him to go to the bathroom, even if it's just a little bit.  My Dr. had me give my son three enamas, once a day for three days to help him clear out that area.

Good luck.
