recurrent abdominal pain

Hello! My son (almost 4) has been having daily abdominal pain for the past 4+ months. He's had 2 scans which have indicated a moderate amount of stool in his colon. So, to treat his constipation, we've been using Miralax. However, his complaints of pain are seemingly getting more frequent and severe. It interferes with his daily activities, including play, rest, and eating. The pain has even awakened him at night. He complains first thing in the morning, until late at night.Ironically, he's pooping somewhat normally; 2-3x daily. His ped did refer us to a pediatric GI who we see on the 27th of this month. Does this sound typical of constipation? I've been told it can take 4 to 6 months to get complete relief from constipation. True? Thanks so much in advance!

Thanks for your comment, but yes, we've been down this road, and it seems diet is not the culprit. We've been battling this for months, and diet was the first issue I addressed with my ped.

Good you are getting some further evaluation on the 27th , how about his diet does he get plenty of Fibre, if he eats sparingly that would contribute if not cause the constipation, you can ask and get a diet sheet of foods he should be eating I know not all children like Veg so if he likes fruit fill up with that if you can.
