can a child of 2 yrs old have tortous colon? my grand daughter has had problems with her bowel movements for some time now , her dr seems unconcerned . we got him finally to do x-rays but he said all looked ok. yet the problem is still happening. she has some days where she will shake while having a movement and screams like it is tearing her insides up. her dr first tried to say she was holding it in and she may have been but my guess is she did because it hurt her so bad. then he claimed we were giving too much juice , well we cut back a lot on juice and still it happens. she does ok for some times and all seems normal then she will have a day or 2 where she suffers with the same problem again. how do we find out what is going on here? would a cat-scan show if there was a problem with her colon or with her intestines? i feel she is suffering when she shouldn't be but i am at a loss on what to do. thank you for any suggestions you can give on this problem. i have nevr seen this in any other kid that i know and i have 5 other grandkids besides her. thank you. debbie bennett
My oldest son did that and my cousins little boy does that my youngest suffers from cronic constapation. What my ped told me was to give him milk of mag everyday you can buy it over the counter like Phillips it comes in differant flavors. It does help. Also you can try pedilax I gor some at walgreens its chewable and comes in differant flavors.I would lay off of the milk products.Try not giving any milk for a couple of days to a week and see if that helps her bowls. Then slowly start giving it back.If my youngest has any milk he gets plugged up and gassy. Also there is a product called miralx it works great it comes in a powder form and you mix it in with a drink you can get it at walmart or any drug store it not long ago became available over the counter. It is safe for kids my youngest staredto take it when he was two (Dr subscribed it then).I would try to take her to a specialist and see what he thinks if you still have concerns.
I just wanted to add to my response that my oldest would do the same thing to the point were at times I would have to take tp and pull it out for him it was so bad at times it would actualy make him bleed.I agree with the holding it in because it hurt so bad my son used to lay on sthe floor and sqweeze his cheeks together. With the milk of mag I was told to give it to him everyday until his bowels were normal. What happens when you get constipated is it builds up and causes dents in your rectum and when you try to go it gets stuck.
