won't eat

Child is 5 years old.  He eats no vegetables, meat or fruit.  Drinks milk and eats peanut butter crackers, reeces candy bar and occassional cookie.  If any other food is put in mouth he will vomit.  He has done this since he was about one.  He initially ate and then he quit and wouldn't do anything but drink milk. finally got him to eat peanut butter crackers.  Will not eat anything else.  He smells of everything you hand him.  His iron got really low and took about a year to get back to normal.  He seems to be about a year behind in school.  Doctors tell me not to worry he will eat when he gets hungry, but he won't eat if you don't have the certain items.  He will do without. Help me....I don't know what to do and no one seems to be able to help me...

Could you try getting him to drink some pediasure?  That has some vitamins in it that he could use.  Plus it looks a bit like milk.  I agreewith boo_mommy as well.

at 5 years old i would talk to him about a healthy dieat and what foods do for his body and his brain. make sure you keep offering him lots of variety even if he wont eat it. I choose one new food and make sure they see it on their plate every day for a week or so and eventually they will try it if i dont push. I would cut out the candy bars and cookies completely. empty calories are useless. see if he will eat his peanut butter on toasted wholewheat bread or wholewheat crackers as that is a complete protien and at least he would be getting something good for him. then i would move on to foods and beverages that most closely resemble the foods he already likes. perhaps you could make him a milk shake with real fruit in it. if he will accept that you can add alot of very good foods to milkshakes without changing the flavour too much. strawberry milkshakes can hide the taste of some veggies and wheat grem. Good Luck.
