Bladder Surgery Complications

I too have had the bladder sling surgery and was fine for a while but now, for the past 1½ yrs I have been experiencing excruciating pain during intercourse. Is there anything I can do about this pain? The gynecologist has checked me over "completely" and there is notning wrong with the vaginal wall whatsoever. If there is some sort of compensation I can geet for this, I would appreciate knowing what the next step is. I live in Ontario Canada.

The problem is not the vaginal wall, it is what is going on behind the vaginal wall. When mesh is not positioned properly with the correct tension, it can result in complications. I feel only physicians with the proper specialty training should be allowed to utilize mesh. Sometimes mesh can be adjusted but that is much easier to do soon after the procedure is done rather than a year+ later. Please seek counsel with a urogynecologist, once you get the name of a urogyn in your area, also check the physicians backdrop to see if they utilize mesh (some urogyns use it, some don't) as well as how good their individual rating is. Yes there are lawsuits pending regarding mesh, what is not being acknowledged is the complications are very often the result of certain drs doing procedures they should leave to experts. Of most significance is getting yourself back to health balance, I'm hopeful you can find a urogyn to guide you on this path. Check the AUGS site if you can't locate one. Let me know what you find out!

Good luck Ruthie, hope you get some resolution. For help with pain, try checking out myofascial release therapy, may be of some benefit.

Be careful who you connect with regarding lawsuit, there are many legal suit sharks getting on the bandwagon now cause they smell money-you want someone who genuinely cares about your situation.

Thanks for your input. I had a urologist do the surgery. I assumed he knew what he was doing as he does numerous procedures, of this sort, daily. Was referred by my GP. It will be 3 yrs, Oct3, since I had the procedure done. The only thing that can most likely be done now, is some sort of compensation for the excruciating pain I endure during intercourse. I feel very sorry for my husband, having to listen to me in pain. I will let you know if I am able to file a suit of some sort.
Thanks again.

There have been advertisments about receiving compensation because of the bladder sling. i would defiantly look into it. Maybe the bladder sling is being pushed against your vagina during sex causing the pain, if the pain is that bad, you should defiantly discuss this with your doctor. It was placed there to help you not to cause more pain and discomfort. Wish u the best and please look into getting some compensation. Try calling a lawyer that specializes in medical malpractice cases.
