Coping with PATM and common symptoms?

As a high IQ individual with multiple degrees and a successful social life, I can honestly say that it is completely possible to cope with PATM while living a seemingly normal life. However, the root causes of PATM are usually attributed to more serious illnesses and if not diagnosed and untreated, can lead to further complications.

- I have set off fire alarms and have had to remove them from my room. I believe this is due to an over production of CO.
- People around me get runny noses. The back drip leads to coughing. I believe this is due to an over production of hormones (androgen/estrogen).
- When I become aware of their gestures and body language in reaction to me, I get anxiety which causes apocrine sweat to be excreted, I believe this sweat combines with deodorant and cologne chemicals, creating a noxious fume that causes sneezing and throat irritation.
- The dander from my body carries traces of the above chemicals, gasses and excretions. I believe the dander becomes soiled in my clothes and through the washer/dryer cycle, combines with the detergent and fabric softener, making the "washed clothes" allergenic.
- I also believe that certain secretions are carried through the breath in the same way they are carried through the bloodstream.

Even with immaculate hygiene and a vegan diet, patm cannot be "cured." as i have said, patm is not a disease, but a symptom of an underlying illness. Therefor, you must treat the disease to get rid of the symptoms.

If you are of African or Middle Eastern origin, you may carry certain genes that make it harder to suppress symptoms of patm.

Here are solutions to short term coping.
- Plan ahead. Always give yourself ample time to get ready for any event, never rush yourself through the shower/changing/commuting process. Shower twice a day. Once before work and once after (assuming you work an 8 hour shift). Make sure to wash the armpit and groin regions including between the cheeks. Use soap or body wash with a washcloth and shampoo/conditioner for your hair. If your hair is very dry, you should not wash it twice a day, only wash it in the mornings.

- Shave. Reduce the amount of surface area by TRIMMING (not completely bald) armpit, groin and butt crack. These areas produce Apocrine sweat and reducing the surface area will reduce the rate of evaporation and the intensity of the scent. Trim the length of body hair as well, but do NOT completely shave/wax other areas of Eccrine sweat. That type of sweating is needed to cool your body off in high temperatures. If you have less surface area for Eccrine sweat evaporation, your body will sweat higher amounts.

- Cut your hair so that it is manageable without hair products, you want the shampoo smell to be the only scent. Do not spend more than $5 on a faded haircut, or just invest in clippers with a good #5 or #6 guard and give yourself an even cut.

- Use deodorant only. Antiperspirant is useless for patm symptoms because it only stops Eccrine sweat. No amount of antiperspirant, even prescription strength, can stop Apocrine sweat caused by nervousness and anxiety. Use a light amount of cologne/perfume. Apply both immediately after drying off from a shower. Do not reapply midday unless you have an hour to "air out." The reapplication of strong masking scents over bacterial waste (bo) can cause a noxious scent that you can't smell, but others can. It smells LIKE the deodorant you reapplied, but with a very strong and irritating amplification that your own nose can't pick up.

- Floss and brush AFTER each meal. Its simple; you eat, you brush. No excuses. Eat at work, brush at work. Floss before bed, brush after flossing. Gargle with tap water and rinse your mouth three times after each brushing. Learn how to properly floss (gentile and slow). See the dentist and be vigilant in your quest for perfect dental health. Good dental health does NOT equal vanity! Dental options such as whitening, implants, etc.. can sometimes cause further complications. Take care of cavities, old root canals, old crowns, wisdom teeth, 2nd molars, chipped teeth.

- Buy clearance items at Walmart. Shirts and shorts go for $1-$5. Jeans, pants, shoes and dress shirts for $10. Pre-opened packages of underwear can be found for sale in certain bins for under $1. Socks and slippers can be bought for $1 at the dollar store, some dollar stores in large cities sell recalled t-shirts and other clothing items. Be frugal, spend as little on clothes as possible.

"If you are between 15-35 and still single, not in a sexual relationship, please consider online dating or seeking someone who doesn't appear to be allergic to you. The prime of reproduction creates certain pheromones that attract mates. Androgen and Estrogen have some gnarly allergic properties to them and such hormones may be involved in patm symptoms."

So your recommending we avoid physical attraction when choosing a partner? lol. But I do appreciate that you recognize what a PATM trigger attraction between the sexes can provoke.

What else have you noticed about the bystanders you affect the most?

Hello magicdude,

I'm very sad to hear about your health. We will be praying for you.

I've posted about PATM for many years and been a sufferer for at least as long as you been alive and I have come to a conclusion that all this started when I took massive amounts of antibiotics for a period of six months for an upper respiratory infection.

I just found out that my father of 82 years old and my sister are also suffers. What did we all have in common, we all took antibiotics allowing bad bacteria to thrive in our intestines, bury themselves in the lining and create holes which created leaky gut.

I'm thinking that the leaky gut process took many years and it will take possibly that long to repair our digestive system.

I'm a testament that you can survive well into your 40's and still live a productive, fruitful life. Don't give up.

I agree with most of what you said but I still think we can cure ourselves. I'm aware that hopeful12345 cured his symptoms by following a strict diet that included natural supplements. Heck I'm sitting in my cubicle office along with 15 other people in a large room and nobody has had any reactions to me. I think we have to keep trying no matter if it takes years.

Now I will be helping my relatives cope with this.

Rather than buying new clothes all the time, I've found that if I buy white that can be bleached it actually works to kill off the fungus or whatever is in the clothes.

I feel as though I got an infection when I first started noticing it, unfortunately you can't really find a doctor to give you antibiotics for this.

I've mentioned it to 3 different doctors and none of them seem to believe me.  I've mentioned it to a few new friends and they don't seem to either, it's kind of a joke with them now.  It makes me feel way better telling people that I can about it then the stress and tenseness of the situation is dissipated.  Unfortunately you can't use this route with everybody as they'll probably want you to not be around and feels like they would attack you for something you really can't control or call you crazy.

I tried all the hocus pocus stuff that was mentioned in many of the threads but nothing helped : zirtec, magnesium, l-glutamine, vitamin c, coco oil, capcilin / multi vitamin / probiotic, being vegetarian, lemon tea with honey, milk thistle / reishi mushroom, pau d'arco, vitamin b12, activated charcoal

so i gave up  that route and am back to enjoying my meat, coffee, cheese, dairy, sugar, alcohol and masturbating etc..

F it!

Maybe we are preparing the people that have allergic reactions for something that is unknown as of yet, maybe we are the cure and not the disease!

I am 31 and noticed my patm 7 months ago and it's been ongoing since.  I try to stay away from situations where my effect is noticed but sometimes it's just not possible.

I couldn't have worded it better myself Magic.  Srsly i couldn't lol.  Im sorry to hear about your health.  I haven't heard anyone say that their health is declining yet.  For the most part patm seemed like it was harming others more than ourselves, but like u said there are underlying issues we probably have that have not been identified yet.  Thanks for all your info, i greatly appreciate it and wish u the best.

- Wear new clothes to your important events, think of it as the first day of school. New clothes, new shoes, new haircut... it will give you positive self esteem and the confidence to know that you look good and smell good, and if there are allergic reactions, its not because of your wardrobe or hygiene. Wash and dry those clothes with other "first time worn" clothing. Fold and store them separately for "2nd time+ worn" clothing.
(As a short term fix, wearing new clothes is fine, but long term... new clothing may contain residual chemicals on them and should be washed before use. Be aware that Apocrine sweat and other secretions are amplifiers to other scents, meaning if the new clothes has a factory new smell, then your anxiety sweat may amplify that smell.)

- Use "second time worn" with people you are more familiar with that endure your presence more than others. These are good clothes for being around others while at home, going to run simple errands where you don't mind others' allergic reactions. Wash these clothes with other "2nd time+ worn" clothing. If you soil any clothing with large amounts of sweat, especially stinky apocrine sweat, then it goes to the "work out" clothing pile. "Work out" clothes should be generally used away from people, outdoors, for a run/walk, yardwork, etc... Work out clothes should only be washed with other work out clothes. After they have been soiled in sweat a few times, cut them up and use them as towels or rags. And after complete use, recycle them.

- If you can't afford an expendable wardrobe, then carry a clean set of your newest clothes with you. If you happen to sweat alot or feel that you have been in the same clothes for too long, just change with discretion.

- See a psychiatrist for anti-anxiety medication. These will completely stop the stress-sweat aka the smell of fear. However, drugs that simulate fearlessness can be dangerous. Stay away from Xanax if you can. Although it does work, there is no way to limit your intake. Instead, I recommend asking your doctor about low dosage Klonopin. They are both in the same family of drugs. According to SWIM, Marijuana is a much better alternative. Alcohol can NOT be taken with anti-anxiety medication, but if you have a designated ride to your event, a couple drinks and some mj can achieve similar depressant effects to lower anxiety. If patm is caused by a severe underlying illness, alcohol may worsen the effects in the long term.

- Quit smoking cigarettes. If you smoke to mask the odor or attention, do NOT inhale. Smoking tobacco products over time will increase the amount of harmful chemicals in your system and add to the amplification of other scents. SWIM recommends a couple puffs of a filtered Marijuana cigarette and a low dose nicotine patch to help smoking cessation.

- Diet. Vegan diet with certain fishes every other day and lean chicken once or twice a month. NO red meat, NO spicy foods, NO fried foods, NO bread/flour, NO sugar, NO fats (except avocado once a month), NO oils. If it tastes good and looks good, don't eat it. No more dining out. You must maintain a VARIETY of vegetables. Cut out all sugars including fruits BUT YOU MUST INCLUDE carbs in the form of beans daily (maybe potatoes a few times a month.) If you do not eat these natural carbs, you will experience flu like symptoms. The carbs in the beans must be converted to sugar by your body. Use very little salt, preferably sea salt, but use VERY LITTLE. Use fresh garlic, ginger, tumeric, etc... for seasoning. Spinach, carrots, cilantro and other "power vegetables" are great for your body, but variety is key. Too much of any one thing can harm you, even vegetables. Research which raw and cooked vegatables are dangerous in high amounts. A healthy diet as such will greatly improve your physical health and knowing you are in good physical health will help you with the confidence for overcoming your fight with patm.

- Exercise: Start with a walk every day. Even if its only a quarter mile. Hydrate during the day, then get out there in your "work out" clothes and walk, walk until you sweat. If your body is in good shape, jog, especially when its warm enough to sweat. Sweating gets rid of a lot of harmful things in your body. Remember to hydrate and sweat on your own time early in your day, so your body doesn't have to later when you're out with your friends. If its cold, wear many layers to work up a sweat or try a local gym with a sauna and go during its slowest hours.

- Old friends. Your friends from childhood should be your friends of choice if possible. They have known you before you dealt with these issues and they remember you as the person you used to be. Making new friends through school or work after you have come to find out about patm symptoms can be hard as they only have one image of you, the person that others cant be around. Your older friends and family dont see you as that, they see you as who you are but with a current medical issue they are trying to solve. Ultimately, you want to surround yourself with people that have your back.

These initial steps are only short term fixes while you seek an official medical diagnoses. The most overlooked areas are dental infections and lymph node infections because no particular specialist deals with those illnesses in mainstream healthcare. Westernized dentistry is not intertwined with traditional healthcare and that causes a lot of issues. Also, the lymph nodes are found throughout the body, causing specialists to treat the surrounding organs instead of the lymph system. If between 15-35 and you have swollen lymph nodes or an enlarged spleen, with no particular infection, you may have Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Other cancers produce odd scents. In fact, dogs have been trained to identify cancer through scent. But most other cancers are usually found in older patients.

I have heard debates on the bacterial vs fungal environment of the gut as well as parasitic infections of the gut, yet I am not entirely convinced of those scenarios, as a true takeover of bacteria, fungus or parasites would cause a massive amount of other symptoms that are easily identifiable by primary care physicians.

If you are between 15-35 and still single, not in a sexual relationship, please consider online dating or seeking someone who doesn't appear to be allergic to you. The prime of reproduction creates certain pheromones that attract mates. Androgen and Estrogen have some gnarly allergic properties to them and such hormones may be involved in patm symptoms. The reaction of mucus membrane secretions are an interesting research topic in how they relate to sexual lubrication. Simple solution, get married. All mammals have one function, reproduction. If you don't, your body may get desperate to carry out its goal whether you like it or not. Even if it has to kick into overdrive with hormone production to make you horny enough to make a baby. This means cut down on masturbation, get married, have children.

Underlying illnesses that cause patm is an example of Darwin's theory which I support. Those who are sick and don't know it except for patm symptoms have a harder time finding a spouse and procreating due to patm. Therefor they are less likely to pass their genes to the next generation. It is a defensive mechanism that we may have evolved.

That is some of the knowledge I've gained in my 10 years dealing with patm symptoms. I am currently dealing with it, in bad health, rapidly declining and still not diagnosed. Despite my great insurance policy, savings account and awesome doctors plus the tests they are running, I am writing this post in the case that I succumb to my illness.
Male, 31, experiencing all symptoms since 16. Patm symptoms since 21.

Remember, suicide is NEVER an answer. Call a crisis counselor if you are having thoughts of harming yourself or others.
I hope this helps. And I hope some of you can find relief.

Wow, quite a lengthy post. Everything that you mentioned/ explained is this post is very similar to what I am experiencing. Hopefully one day someone can find an answer for everyone that is suffering with this condition. I try to ignore reaction, but it is really tough. Thanks for the tips, please keep me posted if you or anyone ever finds a solution to this illness.
@MagicDude, I agree with most of what you said. The PATM is a symptom of another disease. We will only become "cured" when doctors can find the root of the problem.
