Another option for Metformin?

Hello Everybody,

My name is Amanda. At 19 I was diagnosed with PCOS and Celiac Disease two days apart in 2005.
I would just like to say I think I was the only person with Celiac Disease to be over 200lbs. lol
Unfortunately, I did not have a good GYN. My doctor only put me on BC pills to stop hair growth
(which did not work) and to stop the cyst from forming. After buying a book on PCOS I heard about
Metformin.

I had to ask my GYN about it and they put me on it. While, I took Metformin I lost 7lbs but my
kidneys were in pain 24/7. My gyn said that it was a side effect of Metformin and if I couldn't take the
pain to stop taking the pill. Which I did...in 2005. My doctor did not recommend another option. Has
anyone else had this issue or some advice on another medication I could take?

Thanks,
Amanda

There is a med that my dr told me I can take for the hair growth to balance out my hormones (I forgot what its called) but you have to plan on taking it for the rest of your life. And I heard theres a chance it can get worse if you stop taking it. I would start it if I wasnt ttc.  You should talk to your regular dr about it though and see what they can do good luck!

To be honest, it has been so long I don't remember. I only took it for maybe a month or two in 2005. The reason I'm asking if anyone else had this issue is, I notice now when I get cross-contaminated with wheat my stomach and kidneys hurt. So I think it may have been Celiac and not the Metformin. Maybe I should give Metformin a try again. Thanks for the feedback. =)

I have been taking Metformn for over 3 years for my PCOS and never had an issue with kidney pain. I actually have had no problems at all taking it, I lost 50 lbs on it and stopped making cysts.
my question to you is how much were you taking a day?
