HAve PCOS, was pregnant and miscarried

Hi, I have PCOS and have just recently miscarried my first pregnancy. We have no idea how far along it was, but I had the dark hairs below my navel and my breasts were very swollen. My levels said very low, so the doctors said around 2-3 weeks. My ER doctor, the night of the m/c, said I was closer to 2-3 months due to my uterus size (I was also bleeding very heavily at the time). My mother, a RN, said because of the cravings, headaches, dark line of hairs under my navel. and super sized boobs, I was roughly around 6 weeks. My question is, anyone who has this condition and has had a pregnancy, is there anything special to monitor? Is it high risk, and therefore no heavy lifting, out of work, etc.? Any special blood work? We want to be prepared this time. I have cut down the caffeine a great deal, and have taken prenatal vitamins and have cut back on my stress. I drink chamomile tea, and rest whenever I can. Any suggestions? Help please. I don't want to lose another one in the future. Thanks

Are you on metformin? it can help prevent miscarriage you should be taking it anyway because of the PCOS but when you get pregnant you will continue taking it up until the end of the first trimester.  Definitely NO caffeine.  Stick with the prenatals and take it easy.  I'm very sorry you had to go through that, if your not on metformin talk to your doctor about starting it right away.  good luck I hope you get your baby :)

I too have pcos and recently had a mc I was 4 weeks when I mc and this is my 2nd in 8 years. the last one 8 years ago I was 12 weeks when I mc and the fetus was the size of my palm. I have to say at the time of the first mc I didnt know I had pcos but now that I do know and yes there is a high risk of mc I believe it was the pcos that caused the mc the first time. there are books out there that I have been reading that help with pcos not sure at the moment the names of them but I know I have mentioned it before on my profile check it out and when I get a chance I will send you a message with the name in it. good luck!

So sorry for what you are going through.
I think you would find support in the work of Julia Indichova, who wrote the books "The Fertile Female" and "Inconceiveble." She also has a website fertileheart.com. which has a very active discussion board and testimonials from many others who are going through similar problems.
Her books have holistic remedies for cysts and delve into some of the deeper emotional reasons behind why our bodies may not be conceiving.
Good look and take care!

My dr told me that it has a small increase in miscarrages. I was looking it up and I found web sites that say it does and websites that say they used to think that until recent studies showed otherwise. My dr is an older dr and that could be why she told me that. But as far as I am led to believe it does increase the chance of a miscarrage. And I believe its due to to much of the thining of the lining thats why your dr needs to check you every month. Hope this explains it a little more.

Miscarriage of a first pregnancy is actually fairly common, and unfortunately, even more so in women with PCOS.  For the most part, nothing can be done in the first trimester to prevent miscarriage.  Doctors do believe, however, that caffine can increase your chances as well, and recommend no more than 8oz per day (one cup of coffee).  Meet with your OBGYN and she can let you know if there is anything special in your case, but most likely you just need to give yourself a few months to heal and then try again.  Jroxy is right that if you conceived naturally with PCOS you're lucky and probably in pretty good health.  As for her comments about Clomid...I haven't read that it increases the chance of miscarriage, but some women believe it can increase the chance of tubal pregnancy which was true in my case.  Good luck!

If your trying to get pregnate you need to get on vitamins now. Were you taking any furtility drugs to help get pregnate? I know clomid icreases the chances of a miscarrage. The fact that you have Pcos and got pregnate on your own is amazing if thats how you did it, couse it can make it really hard to get pregnate without meds. But the first trymester is when most people have miscarrages. Theres really not anything you can do to prevent or make that happen. uless your doing something oviuose. like heavy lifting or anything that can put strain on your uterus. And maybe if you knew sooner that you were pregnate dr could watch you alittle more closer to make sure every thing is going good. Good luck on your next pregnancy and I hope this helps.
