How bad are the side effects of Metformin?
I am 28 years old and was diagnosed with PCOS last month (June 09). I have been trying to conceive for the past 4 years and I was not able. It even caused problems in my relationship and things have sine fallen apart. I am still angry that it has taken so long for this to finally be diagnosed. The doctors just kept telling me to lose a few pounds and that before I knew it I would be pregnant. Well anyway my doctor prescribed Metformin and I have been doing my own research on it to see if it is worth the risks and I prefer to get feedback from people who are actually taking it and who are in my same position. Who would recommend that I take it and why? What are your success stories? Is there anything I need to know that my doctor isn't telling me? Thanks in advance, I've felt so lost and talking to family and friends who have no idea what I am going through is like talking to a brick wall.
Well I've been on metformin since September 2008 and have lost over 50lbs while taking it. I didn't really have any side affects from it. You just have to watch what you eat, because sometimes having a high fat content meal can cause you to become nausas. I would suggest taking it because you do have pcos and it was one of the known drugs out there to help with the side affects from pcos. And yes losing weight will help your periods to try to become regular. Over time metformin can help improve that. I'm on birth control, so I do not know if my cycles ar normal at this point.
Hi I am 17 and I am on metformin. The side effects of the Metformin isn't bad. You do have to go to the restroom alot but thats how you can loose waight. If you get pregnant it wont hurt the baby but metformin can go threw the milk well thats what I read. You would need to talk to your doctor if you want to breast feed. What that pill does is that it reduces the surgures on the foods you eat. Just start slow. Start with 1 for a pill for a week and then 2 ang just go on. I sure you will do fine.
