Considering that 6-8 16oz water bottles is anywhere from 96-128oz it is comparable. There is 128oz in a gallon. And over the course of the day it isnt excessive.

I know that water can be harmful too, but I agree with the above post, if she's only drinking a gallon with in a 16 hour day then that really doesn't seem like enough to be harmful. If she was chugging a gallon within an hour then I'd understand all the concern. But considering the time frame, that really doesn't seem like that much. I easily consume that much water along with other fluids throughout the day just from sipping on my beverage through out the day, but that was the same for me even before I was pregnant so my body is definitely use to lots of fluid intake. I'm no doctor though, so I really think that's who you should be talking to hun, especially considering all the conflicting comments on here. Good luck!!

Oh jeesh this is so controversial. Yes of corse it depends on your body, what you're used to, what you do during a day. Just ask your doctor. That's the best bet. I am not an athlete or even that active but I only drink water. Always have. I make myself drink milk but I have to have water after. I could say a gallon is really easy for me to do. You know your body best. If you're a water drinker already then you're probably ok to drink a gallon. If you're not a water drinking then start slow

32% of people confuse thirst for hunger. 1 gallon of water a day is not close to water intoxication unless you sit and chug a whole gallon or water right there. Throughout 16 hours is roughly 8 oz of water every hour. Your body is made up of 80% of water and from the beginning of pregnancy to 34 weeks blood volume will increase by almost 50%. 1 in 5 women actually drink enough water a day. This is my third pregnancy and I have always drank a gallon of water a day and I have yet to see a stretch mark.

A gallon is what my doctor recommended! I love water always have. And I've gotten sick multiple times cause I dranked too much water. Don't over do it. A gallon is good. A little more or less is fine but that should be your goal.

Some of us are not crazy, but those insisting that drinking a gallon of water or more and not taking into account other fluids that are being consumed in the day (fruit, veg, soups) and whether there is excessive sweating - are!

6-8 16oz bottles of water does not equate to a gallon.

Are u guys serious. A gallon a day is no where near harmful. If you are spreading that gallon over the course of the day that's great. You should really drink half of your body weight . If you are 200 pounds U should drink 100 oz of water per day. We must stay hydrated.

I also dont think a gallon is excessive. I drink 6-8 16oz bottles of water every day and I've never been told by my doctor that it was excessive. I do spend a lot of time peeing but its very easy for me to drink that amount of water. Just with dinner alone I usually have 2 water bottles. Lol

To:coming in November. Listen to what jemma116 said.. in her 1st post I couldn't have said it better. Just drink like 2glasses at least. Just when ever you are thirsty.
To all the girls that said its not harmful: yeah if you are a fish, great. But how do you think drowning occurs? Use your brain, if not, use Google for **** sake.

Its fine. I'm high risk and have a dietitician and high risk doctor and both have told me a rule of thumb for drinking water is whatever ur weight is, cut that in half and that's how many ounces u should drink a day IN PREGNANCY to ensure u and baby get enough water.

Also because the standard 64oz is good to go by but in pregnancy our water needs go up and 64 oz is recommended to everyone not just pregnant women. And as our baby grows and our weight grows we need the proper amount of water to hydrate everything.

So weight in pounds, diveded by 2. And that's how many ounces you should have this way the bigger you get you can always ensure u have enough water and with the heat rising now they say a little extra won't hurt either

Yes, I saw a programme many years ago regarding a water drinking contest.  The woman collapsed and died.

Drinking too much water can be harmful to you as crazy as it may sound to some ppl. It wise to drink according to your own body needs. If you never have any color to your urine, meaning clear at all times, youre drinking too much water. For me, 50 ounces per day is perfect. If you drink water too much water too quickly, the blood becomes diluted, and the kidneys cannot filter it fast enough to maintain proper sodium balance. Excessive urinating, and headaches are clues. For whoever said they drink 3 gallons a day, your kidneys are putting in overtime. To each their own, but be careful. I just heard about a girl dying on a radio contest because she overdosed on water.

In my opinion, a gallon of water is not excessive. I drink around 100 Oz of water a day (a gallon has 128 oz). In no means do I have an unquenchable thirst, I just make an effort to sip on water throughout the day (and yes I do have to pee all the time)

If you do have a unquenchable thirst and need to drink lots of water, make an appointment and see your doctor.

Drinking excessively with having a thirst could be an indication that you may have gestational diabetes.  So it is very important that you get checked out.

Best wishes.

Drinking 1 gallon of water per day is NOT good for you NOR your baby.  Unless you have been told to drink that much by your doctor or urologist, you should not drink that much water.

You would not even be told to drink a gallon of water by a urologist if you had a urinary problem.

RockRose is correct when she writes : "Excessive water drinking can lead to "water intoxication" or hyponatremia.  A severely depleted level of electrolytes."  This can also lead to death.

The recommended dose of drinking water is 2 litres a day that is around 4 pints.  1 gallon of water contains 8 pints.  10 fluid ounces measures to be half a pint.  20 fluid ounces is 1 pint.

You need to have a healthy and well balanced diet with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, lean meat, fish.  Cut out or cut down on sugary foods, cakes biscuits etc., cut out or cut down on fizzy drinks and natural juices, a small glass is fine.  Don't forget to eat cheese, yogurt and drink milk.  These foods contain the minerals and vitamins and calcium for your and your baby's strong bones and teeth.

Cut out or cut down on junk foods and processed foods.

When people tell you that they drink a gallon of water - this would depend on how much they were losing through perspiration.  Some one who works out a lot or who sweats a lot would need to replace lost fluids that is lost through sweating.

Don't forget that eating some foods like oranges, tomatoes, cucumbers, soups, contain fluids.

Drinking not enough fluids to the point of dehydration is dangerous and drinking water excessively is also dangerous.

I hope this explains things a little better for you.

If you are unsure and you have had conflicting advice on this forum which is likely to confuse you, speak with your doctor or your midwife.

Best wishes.

Wow! I drink when I'm thirsty, guaranteed not nearly to any "recommended" volume. I pee plenty, I'm not dehydrated and all 4 of my pregnancies have had plenty of amniotic fluid. Don't get too hung up on pregnancy recommendations, they are just that and not going to be a one size fits all. If you or your baby needs something, your body will let you know...hence cravings :)

That much water can actually probably hurt you more than help you. You also need to drink liquids that have both sodium and sugars in it to replenish those that the baby takes and so you do not get dehydrated. Like Gatorade or Vitiman Water were my saviors and still are. Even that much water can cause dehydration for not getting the main electrolights you need. I drink anywhere from 4-5 water bottles a day and will drink about 2 bottles of Gatorade or even have Ginger Ale. Water never quenched my thirst and would actually cause me to become more dehydrated in the long run.
