Any info on Cerclage

I just went to my first Doctor appt. I'm about 4-5 wks pg and my doctor informed me that she would like to send me to a high risk doctor asap because she feels that I fall in the high risk category which I am okay with (I think it would put my mind a ease this pregnancy) she then went on about the high risk probably putting a cerclage in place. I know alittle about it but not that must. I was wondering cons and pros, when they do it etc.
she feels that I should get on because I delivered my daughter last sept. at 18wks and due to severe prematurity she didn't survive. Also she mentioned that he would probably put me on progesterone
what its is purpose?
