Bassinet vs. crib for newborn

So I'm seventeen weeks and getting nervous. When do I start buying things for my baby and is it better for a bassinet or crib first? If bassinet how long can they stay in there?

I used the bassinet for the 1st 4 months, then went to the crib. Idk but putting them in a crib when they are so tiny it makes them look even smaller lol. & they are used to a small space I think a bassinet makes them feel more secure.

I'm planning on using the bassinet in our room for the first bit and then transition to the crib. We'll have a playpen as well but I'm sure we will still use the crib more then that.

I use a bassinet in our room for the first 3 mnths or so and start transitioning the baby into the crib for naps until I'm comfortable with having baby in another room...it honestly makes me nervous to not have the baby right next to me! I've also used a pack n play once baby is too big for bassinet and had that next to my bed too!! I just like hearing them breath!! I don't like monitars , I like having them with me!! =)

I'm getting a crib for the baby room and a pack and play for my room. The pack and play is a play pen and has an attached bassinet for when he's real little. My sister said her kids couldn't stay in a full bassinet long, so I figured I could use the bassinet part of the pack and play until he grows out of it, switch to his crib, and I'll still have a play pen.
