Bouncer Seats

I was wondering what you all thought about bouncer seats? The two main items I have always wanted was a bouncer and a swing. I bought a swing but have yet to get a bouncer and of course BF is saying we don't need a bouncer since we have the swing. I think both are necessary. I have baby sat a lot over the last 20 years and I know how to care for babies and it seems that when one isn't settling them down then the other one works wonders.

Right now I'm watching a 4 month old and the bouncer is the only thing that settles him and puts him to sleep when he gets really fussy.

What are your opinions on buying both or just one? How much use do you get out of the bouncer verses the swing?

every baby is definately different and depending on thier moods might like one or the other. maybe u can ask to borrow the bouncer for a few days when the baby comes to see if s/he likes it before investing in one.

I would have been sooooo lost without bouncer seats!!!! They are a life saver when you have a million things to do and baby (or in my case babies). They were content sitting in the chairs (they also vibrated and played music) while watching mommy clean, cook or do whatever it was I had to do. I'm just sad they out grew them. :o(

My oldest practically lived in her swing, they hadn't come out with bouncey seats then.  My last three seemed to prefer the bouncey to the swing, but the swing still came in handy.  I have both this time around too.

I can't say from experience of my step son, as i was not around at that age but i did help raise my three little brothers. When my twin brothers were born we had two bouncy chairs and one swing, one of the twins ADORED the bouncy chair with the vibration, he had colic and was fussy and was a very big momma's boy at the time and wouldnt let me or my step father feed him alot of the time but you put him in that bouncer and he would eat for anyone! The other twin favored the swing more but they did like being up where they could see what everyone was doing, the ones we had had little rubber grips on the bottom and we had a huge breakfast bar that when they were really young they would love to sit in the bouncy chairs with the vibrate on and they could see everyone and they were happy little clams lol. But like everyone else said every baby is different. The ones we had were online from target, weren't too expensive( can't remember how much exactly as i was 10 at the time, turned into a mini mom at the time and with my middle brother being 18 months when the twins were born it was a hectic time LOL) and they lasted until they were too big to sit in them anymore. I would see if you can find a used one possibly, wash the  cloth a few times to make sure its clean and then see if the baby likes it.

My son LOVES is bouncy, its the only thing he will sleep in during the day, and its sad cause we have two, one is a really cheap one that just vibrates and has no head rest, but at his dads house he has a really expensive one that vibrates and plays music and ocean sounds. and has a visor thing on it with animals hanging from it, and its made of really soft material and very spacy with the head thing in it.. he hates that one.. he loves the cheap one lol.. so hopefully that means he wont be too picky when hes older.. but anyway i never bought a swing. and i dont plan to now, all i gotta do when hes fussy is put him in his bouncy turn the vibration on and bounce him alil and hes out!! lol

So I think I'm going to take the car seat/stroller back in store since it was $200 and re order it online for $150 and then use the $50 to buy the bouncer. I say it's a NEEDED item but I know that each baby is different and you never know how they will like something until you try. That's why I haven't bought any bottles yet. I just don't know which ones she will like. I want the playtex drop ins but doesn't mean she will.

My son hated the swing but loved the bouncer. It is also easy to move it to whatever room you are in  so I would say it is a definite to have.

my son never liked the swing so the bouncer was a life saver...i have both of them on my registry right now and we'll see how my daughter acts....i had the bouncer that grows with the child and turns into a rocking chair...it was well worth its money

i agree with limonda..it depends on the baby. my baby isn't really crazy about either one. she'll sit in them but i can't say they comfort or soothe her more than just being in my arms and bouncing around. bouncers are pretty much the same as swings they are just more portable and easy to move so it depends on if you want a swing in one room more permanently and a bouncer to move around from room to room.

i have both on my list. you can easily travel with the bouncy seat as well. also, i dont want to put her in the swing too often because then they get to used to it and can only fall asleep when swinging.

I spent like $200 dollars on a swing that my daughter used maybe 6 times total. She HATED it. I spent like $30 dollars on a bouncer and it was the only thing that soothed her and calmed her down. She continued to use it until she was about 8 months old. I would say get a bouncer as well since they are cheap.

Are you talking about the seat that vibrates?  My now 3.5 year old HATED it....and so does my nearly 5 month old!  Every baby is different....I know a lot of peoples' babies like this chair, but mine don't, for some reason!  Hopefully we can donate it to someone who really needs it - it's in mint condition.  As for the swing....my sons have both loved this.  That and the jumperoo (we don't have a Jolly Jumper, it's a Fisher Price one, I think).

I have a Graco swing and bounce which is a swing and a bouncer all in one. The chair part of the swing actually lifts off and you can set it on the floor and its then a bouncer and it has the vibrating option as well. when you click it back into the swing you can also recline it and use the vibrations while the swing is in motion if you want. I think its super cool because you get to have the swing and the bouncer (which i..like you find necessary) BUT it saves you a ton of space because its a 2 in 1 ..so you dont have a ton of baby items everywhere. It is a full size swing and a full size bouncer and saved us a ton of money on havting to buy both. the other thing i like is the swing has 6 speeds...so it can go super slow or super fast and makes it able to grow with the baby. it has nature sounds...classical music and white noise as well. it doesnt come in lady bug print though :( lol mines very gender neutral..its cute though!

The bouncy seat I want is $45 I have searched the Internet and can't find it any cheaper. It's lady bugs which is the theme I'm going with. I wanted the fisher price papasan one until I found out it's not a bouncer just a vibrating chair. I find those on craigslist for around $20 all the time. To bad they don't bounce.

I forgot to add the bouncy I liked/registered for was under $30 so very reasonable at Target, although I had an aunt who took it upon herself to get me a super fancy one.  I thought under $30 was a great deal for it though!

I loved both of mine! My son is 10 months old now, so no more swing for him but he loved it! Some nights that was the only way we could get him to fall asleep! He would drift away and then we put him in his bed.

As for the bouncy seat we are still using it! That is the only place my son will take his bottle! He is a very quirky eater and I am glad that he will at least eat here! The great thing about the bouncy seat is that you can take them room to room!

I think they both serve two different purposes and they are both great to have!

Stand your ground girl! Do you have any baby stores that sell them gently used?

I have a 6 month old niece who adores her bouncy chair, but when that just doesn't do it her swing does the job.  So, we rotate her back and forth but she favors her bouncy more of the time and has since she was a newborn.  My nephew didn't like his swing one bit (he is now 2).  I have a bouncy, but I don't have a swing yet.  But, I also have this floor activity mat, and another bouncing thing to put him in.  I figured I would wait until the baby is about a month old to buy one (my father in law may buy it ahead of time if not I will buy it).
