genetis do factor in to a degree. My mom had two kids. Both of her "active" labors were under 4 hours.
I have actually labored 4 times so far. My longest was just under 24 but there were extenuating circumstances and I was heavily medicated. Of my 3 normal vaginal births my longest labor was just under 8 hours, my shortest was just under 4.
When I say labor I'm referring to when I started having regular close contractions until I delivered.
I dont know a whole lot about my mom's labor with my brother or me. All i know is with my brother she was in active labor for 9 hours. With me by the time she got to the hospital from timing at home she was ready to push. With my first child i was induced due to a car accident but was in active labor for 8 1/2 hours. Then with my second after being in pain and trying to time contractions i went to l&d at 5cm and had my baby with in 2hours. As far as genetics having a role in duration of pregnancy length i'm not sure. My second was born at 33 weeks and my mom carried to term. I wish you luck.
My Mother had super fast labors, and I did NOT.. I don't think it's genetic. But I have no expertise in the area.
I don't know about the labour experience itself, but I think there's something to genetics playing a role in the duration of your pregnancy: my mom was 2 weeks late with both my brother and I....and lo and behold, I had two pregnancies that went to 41 weeks and I had to be induced both times!
With me, my mom was going to be induced the next day...but went into labour with me the night before and I was born on the induction date.
That would be amazing if it were true. My mom was in labour with me for 4 hours, and 2 hours with my sister. (I was her firstborn) The last two were C-Section.
My mom didn't even know she was in labor in any of her pregnancies but my sister labored for days and I labored for 12 hours. I think it is different with all people.
