It happened to me. When I was 6 weeks 5 days we saw 2 healthy heartbeats. Two weeks later we had another U/S and there was only one heartbeat. One of them stopped growing at 6 weeks 6 days. Now I am 12 weeks 2 days and my body has almost absorbed whole thing. Good luck.

This is more common than we all think.  Especially now with dr doing u/s earlier in pregnancy.  My friend had an ultrasound to confirm and like you saw two sacs.  At her next u/s only one baby and one heartbeat, she too had vanishing twin syndrome, your body like your dr says just absorbed the baby, you won't have cramping or bleeding, you just take care of it on your own. I also had a sister who had this.  And they both went on to have healthy pregnancies and babies.  Good luck to you :o)

i am 15 weeks the last ultrasound i had was at 8 weeks and we saw two heartbeats thats how we knew it was twins but the doc said it probably happened a couple days after that He said he doesnt know why it happened but that there is nothing i could have down to prevent it and to be grateful for the other baby that it is healthy which i am i just have never in my life heard of this!

How far along are you now? did they see 2 heartbeats before or was this your first u/s? Maybe it happened that way because it was so early on? Hopefully someone can shed some light on this issue. I have always wondered why things like that happen.  I am a little suprised your doc didn't seem concerned at all.

No I didnt have any cramping or bleeding I went in for my ultrasound and instead of seeing two heartbeats the doc only saw one strong heart beat and an empty sac he said he thinks my body absorbed it that this pregnancy couldnt support two babies so my body got rid of the one to make way for the other to grow and be healthy he checked the other baby and it is fine it measured ok and the heartbeat is strong... I dont feel like I should about miscarrying ( if thats what happened)  I just dont understand why hes not worried he said everything should be fine and he sees no reason to worry

I have heard that that can happen. I don't know much about it, but it can happen. I'm sure someone else on here knows more about it. I'm so sorry though! <3 Did you have cramping or bleeding with it? Or you didn't even know?
