How many of you had your doctor tellf you that you indeed have strep b? For those who had it and have already had their babies what procautions did your doctor take to protect your baby? What were your fears? I am in the same process were I am wondering every day about all the what ifs that could happen and it worries me so badly. Help please.

You need antibiotics before vaginal birth.. at least two doses otherwise there is risk to baby getting it as they come out of the birth cannal. If you aren't able to get adequately treated before baby comes they usually keep baby an extra day for observation of fevers and such. It's a pretty common thing.. every mom gets checked for it before birth and alot of people are positive for it.

I had it with my first pregnancy. I may not have it with this one.  What they will do is when you get to the hospital and put the IV in, the will add antibiotics to the line. That's all they do. When your baby comes out, I think they usually do this w all of them anyway, is put antibiotic ointment on their eyes as well. They'll keep an extra eye and maybe do an extra test or two before yall leave the hospital, but other than that, don't panic.

I was told I had it and would be giving antibiotics in an IV..I'm not sure if they did or not only because I was put under but when I first got in the room I did mention it to one of the nurses..I just gave birth on the 2nd..
