Strep B Positive :/

So I've been wide awake since 3 AM (didn't fall asleep till a little after midnight.) I have my 3 year old sleeping horizontally across a queen sized bed, with his feet up under my back and a 13 month old sleeping on top of my head stretched out over my pillow like there's no other place to lay... not to mention, she snores sooo loud for a baby lol.

I'm at that point in my pregnancy where it hurts to even shift positions in bed! I'm getting induced in two weeks and I'm so nervous about it; this is the first time out of my other pregnancies that my Strep B has come back positive... what should I be expecting with the antibiotic?? Any of you mommy's have experience with this? With my son I was in labor for 5 hours from the time they started my pitocin drip. With my daughter, I was in labor for literally an hour and fifteen minutes from the start of pitocin; she just couldn't wait to meet us! Now I've read where the IV of antibiotics is given over a 4 hour period; I'm guessing this will be my longest labor thus far...

May I ask why they waited so long to break your water?? I've always been started on the pit drip at 7 AM, and then about an hour later, my OB comes in and breaks my water and then it's super fast contracting after that. I never even pushed with my daughter; my contractions were so strong, she literally came out on her own. And it was frightening for me because I felt everything lol that damn pitocin is no joke!

With my last pregnancy I tested positive for strep b. I have very fast labors and this was my 4th baby. My doctor and I decided I would be induced. I had never been induced before so I really didn't know what to expect. I arrived at the hospital at 7:30-8 am. Got the iv started with the antibiotics. That went on for 4 hours. My doctor came in and broke my water at 3:30 pm and they started a low dose of pitocin which they upped every 15 minutes. At 4:12 pm after one push he was born. So that would have been a 42 minute labor. So don't worry they won't start the pitocin until after you've been given the antibiotics.

That's what I wasn't sure on!! Thank you! Looks like I'll be taking a 4 hour nap before things really get going then!

If you have to be induced you will start the antibiotics first and they probably won't start pitocin until four hours later... They will probably put you on a very low dose of pitocin then and they will start another bag of antibiotics.... This was my experience my labors have been super fast and it's a bit depressing to have to wait and just sit there to get the medicine in your system esp since you know baby could be in your arms in a very short period of time...but since it's best for the baby and you are blessed enough to have quick labors I would be happy either way.. Now if you go into labor on your own they like to see  one hours worth of antibiotics .. This is what midwife told me yesterday.. I have been asking and will get tested when i go back next time.. Hoping I won't have it this time for once,(on my 5th).. With my second ,labor was too quick and she was born before I got too take the test... So they were cautious with her and kept her an extra day I think they may have had her on antibiotics too.

I will sit there for 4 hours on an IV if that's what I need to do so my daughter won't contract it. I'm just so lost on all of this lol third pregnancy, but my first time testing positive. I've been at 2 centimeters for  2 weeks now, and I just progress so quickly during labor. I would hate to cheat myself of a healthy delivery because of being induced!

Yes that's how they did mine. I had a full dose before they statred pitocin. But I talked with my dr about my options bc I was so afraid I wouldn't make it to get even one in . Definitly talk to your dr and let them know that's what you want to do

So prior to being hooked up to pitocin, I'll get my full dose of antibiotics first? Because I'm screwed as soon as they hook me up to the pit drip... I dilate sooooo fast!

I just delivered two days ago and I also have very short labors. As long as they can get one bag of antibiotics in you your baby should be fine. It only take thirty min to get one dose in. They might keep your baby an exrra day to be sure your baby is ok. Luckly this time I got to go home in 24 hours but not always the case most places require thebextra day..  you should be good. Just let your dr know your concerns. And also they can start the antibiotic hours before they Start the pitocin so that's an options to if your bound to have more than one dose
