Well its easier to catch measles, mumps, whooping caught, etc. than ebola and well all know even on this app there is great debate on whether or not parents want to vaccinate their kids. If those parents have a choice whether or not to vaccinate their children then I believe this man and his family and medical authorities should have a choice on whether or not he can return home and receive the best medical care possible. It is a risk but everyone deserves a fair chance, especially as a U.S. citizen.

Although I dont understand why thEy brought him here because he could have been treated there by the CDC he is officially no risk so don't worry. ... he is isolated in the hospital and the disease is only contracted through contact with a diseased persons bodily fluids. .. he is not even aloud direct contact with his family only through glass... so all is well no worries the chances are too minimal

If it's caught early enough mortality rate is down to 70% - and due to the fact that this guy is an expert and knew exactly what he was working with I bet they caught it pretty quick. Precautions are being strictly followed, and I'm glad he got the chance to come home.

I believe there are a great deal of these things happening everywhere without our knowledge of it.

Of course its super scary. But all I know is if it was my husband or brother I'd be happy he is being given the best care he can! :-)

Scuttles88 you are so correct! ... I think the movie the above person posted about was Outbreak BTW, and Ebola is far less contagious than the mythical Motabo virus from that movie. Also agree that bringing them here was best. We have been working on vaccines and potential serums to help combat the virus, which would be nearly impossible to do overseas (people will kill you for penicillin in those kinds of places, imagine what they'd do if they knew you had an experimental drug for a disease that's killing their entire country). The people in question are being kept under very close isolation and in a part of the hospital that is not used for patient care. People say "it only takes one mistake" however we've had Ebola in this country for decades, just in vials used for research not infected people. The same precautions are being taken as with any other deadly pathogen that they deal with on a daily basis.

They brought the patient to Atlanta, Georgia for isolated treatment. He is an American citizen working with Samaritans Purse, a Christian foundation with strong missionary roots. He is a medical missionary that was treating people with the disease in Africa since the medical efforts there are not as efficient as ours. Another stricken patient, an American female aid worker will also be transferred and treated at the same location. Ebola has a 90% mortality rate meaning 9 out of every 10 persons infected will die. But it is actually harder to 'catch' than H1N1 and other contagious viruses.  There has to be direct contact with infected bodily fluid. As long as the hospital and the CDC keep the site quarantined off and sterile, there shouldn't be any foul ups. Honestly I think bringing them here was best. If they survive, wonderful. If they don't, there is less hassle on their families to arrange funerals and whatnot.

That was the first thought I had too WTH.  But if you research the man he has done so much for humanitarian aides.  Also he has little babies too.  So still kinda scary having him here but he does deserve the chance to live he probably wouldn't get over there.
