Who's getting a epidural and who's going in like a soldier??

With my daughter I went into labor and delivery a soldier and came out like the majority "a whimp". The pain was just too much to handle. This pregnancy I will try again. I hope I can walk out a solider lol

My epidural was given to soon with my first son it actually slowed down my delivery too. My son was in the birth canal to long. Oh, But when my epidural wore off! I felt everything, it was horrible but its all worth it! Hopefully I go all natural this time now that I have an idea of how bad the pain is.  Be strong ladies but do what you can handle. God bless you all

Gas&air is like feeling drunk. It does make your voice sound funny and you do talk abit of nonsense but if used correctly, big deep breath in and then a big slow breath out its really effective. This also helps with your breathing through contractions as your using this whilst the contraction is happening.  Google breathing techniques during childbirth or go onto YouTube.
Having an epidural does not make you at whimp at all. Every woman is different who has different levels of pain and lets face it childbirth really pushes you to the max. Especially when your tired. Having the epidural did slow it down for me and if you look at the side effects it will say this. I did feel incredible doing it natural but the results were the same at the end and thats having your gorgeous baby in your arms. The drugs are their to help us women through it if we wish to use them however natural is the best option for me :-) best of luck ladies xx

I guess I am a wimp...I had an epidural with my first 2 and definitely will with this one too. I do wait though as long as possible before getting the epidural,  both times I was 6 cm so I definitely dealt with the pain for hours before getting one,  and then they would break my water right after that. Also if you wait that long it does not slow down your labor like it would if you got the epidural at a couple cms. I like getting it, I enjoy the experience of delivery so much more and I throw up the whole time I am in labor so it's hard to deal with that on top of everything else while trying to deliver

Ive had 3 babies the first one I got one dose of the iv pain meds when i was 4cm and to me it made my contractions worse so i didnt get any more by time i had her there was no meds in my system, did the same with baby #2 only because the nurse kept bugging me so i gave in but again made my pain worse so i didnt get more and it wore off before I had to push the iv meds only work for about 2hrs and is out of your system, with my last i did it 100% natural and plan on doing a water birth with this baby im even going to a birthing center so there is no option of pain meds no matter how bad it gets.

With my son I had to start on pitocin because my water had been broke for 20+ hours and they didn't want to risk an infection. I was perfect before the pitocin! That stuff is awful, so painful!! I still refused the epidural. No way do I want a huge needle in my back.. so I will do the same with this baby, no epidural no matter how much pain I'm in. Hopefully this time I'll dialate on my own

I have done it both ways unintentionally I planned an epidural with both. It worked great with my first one, with my second I was too far in labor by the time it was placed so it had no time to work at all (or wasnt placed right)! I went from being a 5 to a 10 within minutes! This time around i am gonna try the epidural with the hopes it will kick in!

I went into labor with my son Tuesday. Things happened so fast I couldn't get an epidural. It was very painful. I wanted the epidural. So if this is your second pregnancy u might just get to deliver without medication. I know I did.

I did it like a soldier twice by choice and it was no easy task. Last time and this time I plan on getting the epidural.

I think a support system is the best:) my mom was with me during labor and that helped. .. I'm not surewhat the iv pain med is ccalled but I also opted out from epidural. ....I don't know if I can handle the pain again and fear that I won't due to my age... I'm not that old but had my last one at 23.... which was 8 yrs ago... I'm going to try my best to just do iv med... I've heard that you can get gas, wondering how that feels? ?

I work for the army and husband is an army officer so I really want to be a soldier lol. We will be taking a lamaze breathing class in a few months. All of my girlfriends that attempted natural birth caved in and got the epidural so I dont have any positive role models other than watching videos and reading inspirational stories on this blog. When people find out my birth plan they assume I'm crazy even my hubby who I think should be supportive.

I've handled broken bones, kidney stones, and being in the army with next to no pain meds. I know birth is a different kind of pain but after everything I've been through this thing should come flyin out like superman with all the strength I've poured into it. Lol! I'm not evennletting them hook me up to an iv bc I prefer to drink water to keep hydrated. My husband will be there to remind me that I've made this far, I can't puss out now because of a little pain.

With my 1st I was able to go natural no epidural didn't even consider it because I was terrified of them. With my 2nd had to be induced and forgot my fear of them after hours of that pain. The pitocin didn't speed up my labor at all but as soon as they gave me the epidural I finally started dilating and very quickly. If I don't have to be induced this time I'm going to try for natural but if I have to be induced I'm not going to hesitate to get the epidural.

Of course you can be :-) just do abit of research on breathing techniques as I found with my second this really helped me. My first it was all over the place and I didn't really concentrate on what my body was really telling me. All my brain was telling me was "drugs drugs give me the drugs" lol walking around and trying different positions are good to. Gravity helps. I have faith in your girl. You can do it :-) x

My first went like the above stories.  Epidural then pitocin then distressed baby and vacuumed- narrowly avoided c section.    My next 2 I went all natural. . Don't think I wasn't being for an epidural but by the time that happened I was fully dilated both times.  Gotta have relaxation techniques practiced. . Also the warm shower and a lavender sachet helped me immensely.
