gender blood test curiosity???

So I've been seeing all these parts about how woman are able to find out the gender of their baby through a blood test at around 12 weeks.. Is it just a blood test that they give you or is it that test where they poke a needle though your stomach to actually test the baby? I'm just curious

When I was pregnant with both my sons they offered that test but both times I declined.. There was no real reason for it to be done. But the drs offered it anyways.

The amneocentesis is only donr in cases where they highly suspect genetic problems or issues with baby. The genetic testing on the other hand was usually done to older pregnant women to find out if the baby had any genetic problems, it takes almost a week for them to analyze the blood bc they look at DNA, so it's a long process. Nowadays some doctors.offer it to everyone to rule out those problems (even when you don't have any risk factors) and also to find out the sex. Since it's DNA they look at, even with the actual genitalia not being formed, the test is 99.9% accurate. I has it done at 10 wks and found out I'm having a boy. They only drew blood from my arm. Also I'm an RN and I did a lot of reading about it. Good luck!!!

The test that they do where they draw from the belly is an amniocentesis. It has a risk of hurting the baby though.

The blood test is as accurate as an ultrasound 99.9% all they do is take blood from u and I think it takes like a week

I had my blood drawn as part of the 12 week screening. Not only did it test for down's syndrome and other chromosomal issues, but I was able to find out the sex of the baby as well!
