Ha I have to agree... some of these names I just couldn't imagine. But its not my child so not my problem:)
I totally agree. It's cruel!
But just cause 1 name us not popular where u live don't mean it's not popular someplace else. So it may be cause of a background of that family. U don't know. Just cause some ppl choose to give their babies the same name as 15 other kids in there class don't mean others have to. There may be meaning behind them that they don't post on here. So ppl should not judge.
I'm all for going otta the box but yes some of them seem to be setting their kids up for a lot to deal with growing up. Maybe their culture is completely different and it won't matter.
I agree... I think when picking a name there is more to consider than just trends. Like a while ago i saw a lot of people who said they were using the name journee. I'm sorry but to me anything that ends in "ee" just screams stripper. There is so much to think about other than what you think would be cute to call your baby. You need to think of possible careers. Would their name fit a lawyer or a Dr? What nicknames might people come up with for them? What mean things might children makes rhyme with their name? Etc...
I could not have said it better myself!
Why does it matter? It shouldn't, not your child or your place to be worried about it. There can be any number of reasons why someone is named the way they are. Could be cultural, a family name, who knows. It doesn't really matter. I supposed only in the U.S do people still think so small mindedly. Unique names are found everywhere, what doesnt fit in one place fits in another.

I understand ur point..but I agree more with the girl how posted about how little commenting there is about pregnacy wich is what this apps about...this forum is pregnacy NOT Bout what u just said or realacion ship problems...ur comment was un nesicary and rather rude..
Well I hit a nerve. I figured since everyone was turnung this app into a freakin Maury show anyway, I could give my opinion. I guess that's not the case.
I do think people should think about creative spellings of names, you are settibg your child up for a life time of getting their name misspelled, and they will never be able to get a Disneyland keychain or one from other location with their name on it. As a person who's name has 3 different excepted spellings, I gets annoying when people ask you how to spell your name all the time.
And don't be surprised if your kid changes the spelling of their name to the traditional option when the get older.
I read a great guideline for names, think of someone saying, "all rise for the Honorable_______ _______"
You can think it is your choice, but what you name child does greatly impact the rest of their lives, because the world is full of sucky judgy people that will discriminate against your child based solely on their name. If you want to name your kid Pryncess Magisty that is your choice, but when they apply for jobs the HR people will laugh at her application
Thank you. I seriously meant no disrespect by my post. You just said it way better than I ever could.
Agreeeeed. Poor children.
Agreed. I have to scroll through posts where people name their kid something ridiculous because I have no comments on the name... I'm naming my daughter Emily- an original and cute name
My daughters name is Dahlia and no one from where I am from likes or understands it but it's a beautiful name and if she gets laughed at she will just have to learn to be stronger and embrace who she is I don't think it's anymore place to judge and by judging the parents for picking the silly name aren't you just an older version of the school bully.
By the time r kids r in school uncommon names will be common my son's name is atreyu not common at all but who know when he goes to school
I don't think there's anything wrong with a name that's different or unique-to an extent. I think people should be careful naming their children with words. (Think Destiny, Chastity, Paisley, Constance, Buffalo, Rainbow, Sunshine etc) patterns, nouns & verbs to not good names make, in most cases. I make exceptions for things like Hope & Grace-although I wish I didn't have to. Vanity spellings are a narcissists wet dream an irritate me to no end. They are just a way for uncreative people to recycle the same old name everyone loves by making it impossible to spell! (Think Carlijn (Carlin), heileigh (Haley), phayrah (ferrah) etc) coming up with a "new" name is okay as long as it isn't ridiculous. Cultural names are great-as long as you have a connection to that culture-otherwise it doesn't really make sense & can even be offensive. In the end, it is a parent's choice-I'll admit, our first choice for a girl was unusual (Majandra Nadeen) Nadeen is a family name & Majandra is a combination of our mothers middle names (Marie & Alejandra). My Hubby's mother was half Colombian, so I don't feel badly about using the cultural spelling & I don't think its too odd that people couldn't pronounce or spell it-plus, she could go by Andra for short. I think its when oaren'ts DONT think through the implications of a unique name that things go badly
Dahlia is a nice name, it is a flower - nothing weird about it.
Atreyu, I have seen this more as those of lare gen Xers who watch Never Ending Story on a weekly basis grow up. Just like all the X-men names like Logan and Xavier are getting more popular
Flower yes but The Black Dahlia is weird and that's why I like it.
All I have to say is I love unique names.... When I was a kid although my name was known it wasn't used(Erin) I only knew one other Erin growing up.... I love my name.... I have 2 daughters McKayla.... Which when I named her I had only heard the name once.... My other daughter is Acacia(pronounced Akaysha) its an African tree that symbolizes strength and beauty.... Also a biblical name.... I have met one other acacia to date but I get compliments all the time..... Strange names that mean nothing to you mean a lot to someone else.... Ad far as journee its silly but it could mean something to that mother.... Don't judge.... Your kid might hate their regular Joe blow name and change it to shenaynay so just be kind!
I do agree with the original post some names just blow me away however no personal offence to people the named their kids these names but I would refuse to have my kids have a completely common name, like right now Emily and Emma and Sophia, Olivia, those are the number one names... imagine what their classes are going to bee like one they are in school... it's like jayden there are 5 in my son's class... I'm naming my daughter Cora, I wanted different but classic.
All of my children's name mean something Azaria Imani meaning blessed by God and her middle name means faith. Amir Xavier meaning a prince amongst kings and middle name means strength. My new boys name is Aaron meaning to be exalted and lifted up. I chose my kids name because there's so much in a name and I believe the first sense of power a child feels is in their name.
