people's opinions about your name selections!

Rant alert!

Whyyyyyy do people ask you what names you have picked out if they're just gonna tell you how much they hate them!
Some of my friends have named their kids really stupid names. Did I ever tell them I felt they were not great names!? No!
Seems like every name you pick somebodddyyyyy has a problem with it!
My kids names are Raynah and Ryland and I was gonna go for another R name. So I told my friend today that my top favorites are Rowan for a boy. Or Rowyn for a girl. I also like Ruby for a girl I think its really cute and classic and she went off about how much she hated the name said it was ugly and how it reminds her of Max and Ruby on nick jr. Im like.... so what? I figured it was a sound I hadn't used yet. It would go well!
She asked me what else I had picked and I told her thats it.... because im already bitchy and I knew Id be even more so if she went off on the rest of my choices.
Another friend of mine is pregnant and not saying a word about names I think I'm going to do that from now on.

Where do people get off thinking they can just say that kinda crap?! Ugh! Sorry, I just had to rant!

This is why no one knows what we are naming our soon and won't till he is born. People are so rude anymore. I know when I said we were doing Bible names for this child people already started in saying everyone does that and we shouldn't. so no one gets any hints anymore lol. we aren't even telling the sex right now cause they will have something to say about that too

Yes I wish I never told people my girls name :( I'm naming her Evin or Evyn (not set on spelling yet) and my parents hate it saying it's no "even" a name :-/ I'm still using it though, because I got talked out of using Luca for my daughters name last time and don't want to let it happen again

I'm sorry that your friend didn't like your names, personally I love them. But I think that getting other peoples opionons on names can be useful like reminding you of someone with a similar name or pointing out how that name can be made fun of often we fall in love with a name and don't consider these things.

When people ask me about names, I tell them we haven't settled on a name yet and still going through lists. Our mums know what name we have picked, but that's it! I see too many people get upset at friends criticising their names so I don't tell anyone. Easier on me and hubby then.

Oh I know what you mean! My family all were dying to know what I was naming my baby when I found out he was a boy. After the name randomly came to me, and I told them, all I heard about was how much everyone hated the name, and that I needed to change it. More or less I was being told I "wasn't allowed to name my own son the name I chose". Family went as far as to tell me my son "would hate and resent me his entire life because of his name" said he'd "be bullied his whole life, want to change his name, be picked on mercilessly and it would all be my fault, and he'd hate me and his name."

Hilarious, and very rude and immature on my family's behalf. Funny thing is nobody told any of them what they had to name their children, and that they weren't allowed to name them what they wanted. Doesn't matter though, I'm happy with the name, and I'm sticking to it. I told my great aunt Dorothy the last time I saw her that I was pregnant, and I told her the name I was giving him. The following week she had a heart surgery, and she didn't make it. I'm especially keeping his name I already chose because she knew what the name was and because she gave her blessing on it. That's all that matters to me. Don't listen to what anyone else says. Nobody forced them in their naming decision.

Ruby and rowan are gorgeous names, don't let her get to you. Just think how she would feel if you ridiculed her kids names. I hated unsolicited advice when i was pregnant, i became a bit of a smartass with my replies lol x

Oh I could rant alll day about this. It's so frustrating how people have "better" names to choose than you do. I stopped telling people the name I love because they all have something to say about or turn there nose up about it. Not their choice. Choose the name that feels right. You know the baby better than anyone and you know what feels right and what comes natural.

Number 1: I love the names! I have a soft spot for old Gaelic names especially. ;) Number 2: Why is it that the minute a woman announces she's pregnant people think it's a free pass to criticize everything she does?! That's not OK! And finally number 3: is it just me or does it seem like the parents who are so quick to tear down your choice of name usually have at least one child that absolutely hates their own name?

I like those names, one thing I've noticed about pregnancy is people love to tell what you should do or not do and give lots of unwanted advice!  It's so annoying, just try to ignore them, I know it's hard sometimes especially when it's a friend!

Awe sad, one of my favorites is Rowynn/Rowen but definitely for a girl. It's so pretty and whimsical I think! I think people should keep their opinions to theirselves I personally hate the name my sister chose for my niece but I have never said a word, because I wasn't asked for my opinion and its just not nice to do.

I don't people realize how much it hurts someones feelings when they go off about how they hate the names the person pick out. I know people who've pick names I don't care for but its not my child so I keep my mouth shut because my opinion doesn't matter. I think life would be easier if people stuck to the saying "if you have nothing good to say then don't say anything at all"

Just ignore the haters. They arent the ones having the baby, they dont get to name baby.
My mom used to hate that we are going to name our son Hiro, but she got used to it and now loves the name because she understands that it has a lot of meaning for my husband and I.

I like Ruby and Rowan. Unique and yet classic.
I had problems with our daughter's name too. She is going to be Reily, my maiden name. My husband's cousin has a son named Rylan. People kept asking if we were sure and didn't we know about Rylan. We picked her name almost 3 years ago while we were dating, it's my family name, yes we're sure. Also they don't like the spelling. Oh well.
Don't listen to anyone else. If you love it, that's what matters.

Kaylas Dad didnt like the name Kayla at first. He said that his Grandmas favourite dog died years ago, who had the same name and she wouldnt like it. I said maybe the name will bring her joy again, and I am keeping it. Lol
Everyone is going to have an opinion, but it is definately our choice. I like both names you have chosen. I love Rowan/Rowyn especially. I have never heard of that for a girl, and it is beautiful.
All your R names are really nice.
