promethazine for nausea..???

so I checked my Walgreens app earlier to see if my OB called in something for nausea, and I was surprised to see it was promethazine..

one, I don't take pills.. so I was wondering if it came in liquid form??
two, I thought zofran or something was safer to take during pregnancy??

I plan on calling to ask about all of this tomorrow, but I just wanted to know. I've taken promethazine before, years ago, and it made me super sleepy..

thanks for reading ladies! I'd appreciate any input.. (((: ❤

Im taking some generic stuff for Raglan and I just pass out every time I take it haha not so bad if you can nap during the day though. I trust my Dr but I check up with everything online or at the hospital,  I just like to be 100% sure.

So happy everything is going good for you :)

thank you so much! I was so relieved to finally get that appointment today! I just need to be able to work, and working all day and being nauseous kind of defeats the purpose in me taking it.. sure, I'll finally be able to sleep at night!! lol BUT, I need to be wide awake during the day.. )):

I also unfortunately found out, if you haven't read, that she believes I have a short cervix? & she doesn't want to be the one to judge the best way to go about the best way to treat it.. so she's referred me to a specialist just to take a look at it.. I'm just praying that goes well! I've never been made aware of that? I've had the LEEP procedure done, and Cryotherapy.. NEVER been told my cervix was so short.

plus, I've even asked if my cervix showed any signs of being a problem when I wanted to carry a child.. I was just mind blown today really! but, the baby look fabulous! (((:

My doctor recommended Zolfran for my nausea.  I love it and it also comes in tablets that dissolve under the tongue.  I'm not so sure about promethazine.

yeah, I think I'd rather try the zofran.. idk why she chose promethazine.. maybe it's her preference? I hate to bother her about it, but I need to be conscious during the day if I have to take that stuff! lol

& a dissolvable sounds much better anyways! I'm NOT swallowing a pill, and I hate having to crush them.. they taste horrible, so I'd hate to have to feel nauseous taking a nausea pill!! lol

story of my life.. thanks for responding! ((:

I know the name as a main ingredient in several allergy meds but never heard of it used for nausea...  So I googled it.  It checked out.  Learn something new everyday!!

I'm with ya on the pills honey!!  Have to force down my prentals. Don't be too shy to tell your doc that and ask for the other tabs! Got nothing to lose in asking!!  Hope you feel better!

lol I'm still learning too! I've taken it a few times growing up.. but I always hated it! & I just never thought it'd be prescribed to pregnant women!

I guess they assume we could use the rest too, b/c it does knock you out, but I need to be awake the majority of the time! lol

idk, I may try it over the weekend.. if I can't function then hopefully she'll give me something else! ((:

I was prescribed promethazine when I had gotten a stomach bug along with tamiflu and that stuffed saved my butt!! Made all my nausea go away, BUT it did make me very sleepy... I only took it at night time tho. I never tried it during the day because of that... and it was a liquid, not pill.

ugh, well at LEAST I know it comes in liquid form.. now I just don't know whether or not to ask for the liquid OR just ask for something different, like zofran lol

I just can't stay at home and sleep all day.. I've already missed so much work from doing that now. if I take promethazine I'm pretty sure the nausea will go away, but I'll still be at home.. in bed.. all day lol Lord help me..

thanks for replying!! (((:

The Zofran is awesome. I take the ones under that dissolve under the lounge. Also if you want you can try preggie pops they are a sour candy that worked for me. Hope it works for you.

So happy baby looks so good!! Sad about the shirt cervix, I've never heard of that :/ Does it effect anything pregnancy or delivery wise??

I haven't had an ultrasound since 6 weeks and I'm dying to have another! I want to see my angel so bad again, I'm trying to make an appointment at a free place in town to hopefully find out the gender too. I'm 12 weeks 2 days but want to make an appoint once I'm 13 and a half :)

I need to try them both!! lol sometimes I'll tell my fiancé.. "I feel pretty good today!" -- HA!!! 10 min. later it's like the baby is saying, "yeah right mommy, give it a second.." lol!!

do you have to order the pops?!

yes, having a short cervix can cause preterm labor and/or miscarriage so.. I'm just waiting on the specialist to get in touch with me to schedule an appointment!

I'm sorry you haven't seen the baby recently! is it b/c of insurance??
luckily my nurse today said my OB will probably do 4 or more ultrasounds all together.. she's real big on comfort for her patients, thank God, so I'm thinking I'll get another in April.. I'll be 13w6d then..

I hope you get to see/hear the baby asap!!! ((:

do they not make you sleepy?! that's really my ONLY concern, b/c I desperately need to not miss anymore work.. I've missed b/c of the awful nausea yes, BUT I've also missed b/c I sleep the majority of the day due to not being able to sleep at night...

hence the reason why I'm up at 3:00 a.m. lol )):

Ahhh :/ I'll be sending good thoughts and prayers! I can't believe no Dr has told you before, that's crazy.

Not so much if insurance but I didn't want to do the down syndrome scan so they opted not to do one until I was 16 weeks so I could try for gender and be more successful but I don't want to wait that long. Our plans moved faster than expected so we're moving to Iowa in 2ish weeks instead of a month so I'll just say I need one before I go :)

Promethazine is phenergan. It's usually what they put in your iv for nausea if you have to go to the hospital and it's just as safe as zofran. It does make you a little sleepy though. I'm allergic to zofran so I can't take it but phenergan has saved me more often than not. I've lost 21 lbs this pregnancy bc I couldn't keep anything down. Phenergan is the only thing that stopped me losing 5 lbs a week.

yeah I know right?! me & my GYN will be having a looong talk next time I see her, b/c I can NOT believe for one second that she didn't know my cervix was that short.. a warning would have been nice, a long time ago!!

and moving?! that's exciting, we would love to move also, but I've got to get all of this stuff situated before I even think about any of that stress!! lol

thank you!!!! I'll definitely be looking for those! I just took a 25mg promethazine about 15 min. ago so we'll see how that treats me first..

if it does knock me out, I'll just have to find an alternative to use during the week for sure!

thank you again!!!! (((:

yeah, I've taken it before.. I guess I just always assumed most doctors prescribed zofran for pregnant women, for whatever reason... but I just took one not too long ago & praying it helps..

constant nausea for the past 4 weeks has been enough!
thanks for your response! ((:
