If you don't prep it you'll be able.to use your fingernail and scrap it off. And I wouldn't chance my baby chewing on some China made crib with God knows what in the paint.
Just buy a black one if that is what you want. I wouldn't take the chance, because you know the baby will chew on it.
Babies can bite and chew on crib rails so its smart to use a baby safe paint.
Now a days paints are much better and uou dont have to go through the entire sanding/painting/ sealing process....as danahenley said some paints already have a sealer. Also you dont have to be crazy about the paint, as you said the baby wont even use the crib now. It has plenty of time to dry out and the smellbwill go away, i mean did u paint your house with "baby safe" paint?? Lol
Your going to have to use 220 sandpaper and then clean it.off then use a acrylic primer and then do at least 2 coats of latex top coat.
I just painted over the original paint on my crib and the paint has a sealer in it already so I didnt have to do that
If you paint over the existing finish it will most likely crack and chip. You need to sand the original finish down so that you have a course surface for the paint to adhere to.
Not with us but in a bassinet in our room
Yea my bf doing it not me. But I thought we could just paint over it to be honest. But yea we were gonna leave it outside awhile 1st and then baby sleeping with us the 1st few months. So that's awhile from now
That's going to be a lot of work, first you need to sand off all the original finish (which is a huge pain), then paint, then seal. Also I'd make sure you finish at least a few weeks before baby arrives so there's time for any remaining fumes to dissipate.
I was googling and lullaby paint was one safe one. But I was trying to see if I can just go in a store rather then online but I'll ask shermin Williams too
Make sure the paint is nontoxic for babies
If you paint the crib you have to seal it so none of it flakes off but I don't know what kind are safe. You should be able to ask the doctor or a paint professional, like at Sherwin Williams.
