spotting

I'm 13 weeks and 5 days pregnant. I've had 3 misscarrages.I was spotting at the beganing of the pregnancy, then it stoped.I had an ultrasound done at 8weeks and then again at 10 weeks everythings was fine. The baby's heartbeat was 170.I woke up this morring and there was birght pinkish coloured blood, not alot.I went to the bathroom about an hour later and it was brown and was going away.I seen a doctor and he said it was old blood and my cervix was closed. My hcg levels were where a 13 week pregnancy should be.I have no cramps or any kind  of pain. could someone please give any kind of advice on what maybe happening......melissa

I know how scary it is...but it sounds like all is well. Remember your cervix is really soft right now, and easily irritated.  And congrats...you are through the first trimester!!  Chances are really good the spotting is absolultey nothing to worry about at all!

so very sorry to hear that!!! it can be sooo scarey! i had had four miscarriages before this pregnancy, and no complications until about 12 weeks when in the morning i went to the bathroom and had bright pink spotting.. it turned into heavier bleeding for a few days.. the ultrasound showed i had placenta previa.. i had been really really sick with morning/all day sickness, and they think me being active + all the wretching from vomiting put a lot of pressure on the placenta previa.. i went on bed rest and defintely pelvic rest for about 3 weeks or so until the spotting stopped.. the placenta has since moved.. but that is a common cause of bleeding around that point in pregnancy.. my dr said i might bleed and it will be scarey but it wouldn't cause me to miscarry.. so that made me feel better!!. GOOD LUCK!!!! : )

Melissa--- Did you do any house work or over exert yourself the day before?  If so than that can sometimes cause spotting.   The brown blood is old dried blood so there is not much to worry about there.   As long as it is not very heavy and you have no cramps I would put your feet up and relax for today.  Try not to do any housework and if you do just some very light housework.
