5 weeks no Fetal Pole?? Doctor thinks it's miscarriage

  Hello to all,
I am 26 years old in my first pregnancy.  Today I had 2 ultrasounds done and no fetal pole in sac.  My doctor thinks it's a "silent" misscarriage.  I cried all day and can't seem to get to sleep tonight.  I am going back to my doctor tomorrow to have more tests done but he believes it's a misscarriage since there is no heartbeat.  I am so lost for words right now.   Can anyone relate?
Thanks..

5 weeks is very early...I'm surprised you were even given an u/s.  As Rachel said, wait til 7-8wks, then have another u/s and your HCG levels checked.  There have been many women on this post that have seen their OBs very early 5-6wks, and told there was no fetal pole or sac, only to discover a week or 2 later, everything was detected.  Don't do anything until you give it more time...read gypsy1031 posts, something very similar just happened to her!   Good luck to you, and keep us posted!  Pam

Wow, five weeks is really pushing it to seeing anything. At five weeks all I saw was a gestational sac and a yolk sac. They told me I was right on track! I am now 24 weeks pregnant and going strong! So, do not give up yet. Demand them to monitor your levels and go get another ultrasound around 7-8 weeks. Like Jen said, sadly all you can do is wait, but do not wait in despair!!!  Hope all of this turns around and you will posting about seeing that little heartbeat flicker on the screen!! Good luck! Rachel

I've had two m/c's two, Sue although not this early in the pregnancy but I definitely can relate.  At 5 weeks of pregnancy, depending on the hcg numbers, it's iffy whether anything at all can be seen even by u/s.  Even a few days can make a difference as far as giving the pregnancy time to grow which is why I suggest you recommend repeating the u/s in a week.

By the time you're 7 weeks, all should be visible - sac, fetal pole, heartbeeat - the whole she-bang..  The only thing you can do is give it some time.  Unfortunately all you'll be in the waiting game to see if this is a viable pregnancy.  I'm very sorry you're going through this - hopefully, you'll get some good news! - jen
