Has anyone had post-delivery Pre-Eclampsia

In my previous preganacy (16 months ago) I developed Pre-Eclampsia 4 weeks after delivery.  I did not have high blood pressure during pregnancy.  I am not 18 weeks pregnant and concerned about developing it prior to delivery.  My 24 protein level at 10 weeks was 147.  I had a random urine test last week but do not know the results yet.  My dipstick urine samples have been negative.  My current blood pressure has been running 100/70.  Any expereince shared would be appreciated.

I am 38.

I found out that I had pre-enclampsia when I went to the hospital for fetal monoriting last week (the Friday before last) when they found my baby had no heartbeat. I felt perfectly fine and had no swelling of face or hands, no vision problems or pain under my ribs. They took my BP and it was sky high and they said I could have a stroke. I just thought it was from stress in finding out that our baby was not alive.  I was given an epidural and induced, then given Magnesium Sulfate. The epidural brought it down some, but not enough so I was given IV meds for BP. My BP was fine during the whole pregnancy.  My platelet count was low, but not low enough to need platelets. The count is supposed to be 200. It was 114 Saturday morning then 144 by Sunday when I left the hospital. I went to the Dr. yesterday and they drew blood to run some liver enzyme and liver function tests. My BP was OK but on the higher side of normal. I wasn't aware that it could still affect me after the delivery. Thanks for sharing this information.

Oh my goodness...some very scarey experiences.
Just wishing you all the best Kris. I had severe pre-eclampsia onset during labour, and high blood pressure continued for 2 days after delivery. Things were controlled by a lot of medication, with high doses of magnesium sulphate. Like you, my bp was fine during pregnancy and I fear it happening again in any other pregnancy.
My doc said he'd probably put me on asprin throughout pregnancy next time, closely monitor me, and NOT let me go past my due date. He said if i fell pregnant again there would be a 1 in 3 chance it would happen IF the father was different.
Good luck!

My daughter had Eclampsia - effecting her 4 days after delivery. She had severe swelling starting at 5 months of pregnancy. She made it full term but doctors had decided to induce but she went into labor the morning of teh scheduled induction. Her blood pressure increased slightly prior to birth and during delivery. Afterwards she seemed to be doing okay other than the swelling.
She went home a Sunday, ended back up at the hospital on Monday, came home Tuesday and was rushed by amublance on Wednesday back to the hospital with a blood pressure of 205/190, blurred vision, and severe headache. While she waiting in the ER, she had a seizure and from that point her condition went drastically down hill. She was then transported to Cardiac ICU where she stayed for 4 days - touch and go - while the doctors attempted to stabalize her blood pressure and then after stabilizing her blood pressure she was put in a regular room. We were told she suffered a stroke. Overall her hospital stay consisted of 15 days and was followed up by contnous visits to a Cardiologist and Neurologist. She was on blood pressure medicine for 3 to 4 months afterward and now has some memory loss. The memory loss does not seem to be severe but she does forget alot of things.

I recall the OB/GYN doctor mentioning after the delivery that he may start her on Magnusieum Sulfate...but never did.

My concern is that this conditions runs in my husbands side of the family and with each pregnancy the condition worsens - his mother had for example, her condition was worse with each one and by the 4th pregnancy a decision had to be made to save her or the baby. My sister had Pre - Eclampsia but her case was not that severe.

There is a possibilty my daughter could be expecting again.....and I am scared to death. This previous pregnancy was horrific and I dont know If I can handle going this ordeal again with my daughter.

Has anyone else experienced anything this severe?

My daughter had eclampsia, she had her seizure 3 days after she had the baby and was in the hospital for 4 days, I'm not sure they knew what they were doing, it's been 3 months now, with doctors telling her different things, different medicines, etc, she is now taking depakote and propranolol, but her head still hurts and she is having problems with her eyes still, the computer, lights and sunlight hurt her eyes, has anyone else experience or still having these problems?  Her doctors just keeping giving her the round around. thanks

I had post delivery eclampsia 6 days after delivery with a seizure.  I had a lot of swelling prior to delivery and only trace amount of protein in my urine.  My blood pressure didn't sky rocket until after delivery.  It was a horrifying event...mostly for my husband as I was out of it after the seizure for a while.  I'd like to get pregnant again....not sure he's willing.  I delivered at 40...I'm now 41 and in otherwise good health.  I hope this pregnancy is uneventful for you!!  Best of luck!
