Ectopics without surgery?

Hi I'm new!  I has m/c 11 weeks ago and what seemed like an infection 4 weeks later when my period should have been due.  I then ovulated, stupidly tried to get pregnant, had a period 5 days later and then found out I had a 5 week ectopic pregnancy last week. The good news is that my hcg levels are dropping on their own so I don't need my tube taken out, but worryingly, the doctor at the hospital initially seemed very keen to do surgery without monitoring my levels to see if it would miscarry on its own. (you can even leave it for up to 1 month for low levels < 300)  I do feel positive about getting pregnant again, but feel I will have problems because of the scarring in the left tube.  I was so worried that I would end up without any tubes eventually and need IVF but don't feel as bad now.  I think I need to wait at least 2 cycles before trying now.

hi there.

I had an ectopic and was treated with methotrexate. While my HCG levels werent doubling, they were going up and that was why i had to be treated. Make sure they are monitoring your HCG levels though. Also just so you know we couldnt TTC for 3 months after being treated with methotrexate as it carries a risk of abnormalities.

Good luck

Wow you taught me something I didn't know a ectopic pregnancy could miscarry on it's own. As long as your HCG levels are low I don't see any reason why surgury would be nessassary right now. You could ask about being treated with methotrexate.

Hi,

for early ectopic I think they can give a med that will terminate it (and preserve the tube).

If your body has naturally terminated it, then your body will probably just absorb it and seeing that there is no trauma likely there will not be scarring.

Good on you for avoiding surgery.  I think sometimes they are too eager.  Though of course a progressing ectopic is a medical emergency.

Do keep observing the hcg levels and that all is resolving as it should.

Best wishes on getting pregnant again in a few cycles.
