Help! Strange pain on right side, what is this?

Ok, trying NOT to freak out, but I had a busy day at work on Friday.  I am currently 12 weeks with twins (first pg, hence the paranoia!)  I work in a hospital where I had to wear a lead vest a few times on Friday.  (they are 20# at most) and I don't know if that had anything to do with it.  Later that day, I started feeling a tiny little cramp 3 inches to the right of my navel.  I came home and relaxed and the pain went away.  Saturday night, a little twinge came back around bedtime and This morning, I woke up and had a little ache right about where my right hip is, and I would feel little pangs of pain going down to my pelvic area.

I am not experiencing bleeding, I do not have a fever or feel sick.  I called my MD yesterday, but he did not offer much, just said, take it easy, drink lots of water and call if I had any bleeding.    He said there is a ligament on the right side?  so I am looking for info on the net.  Anyway, I wanted to see if anyone else is having or had this and what did they do about it.  I think I would just lose it if something happens to these babies and I caused it.  : (  Thanks!

Thank you all for your replies.  I did go in to see the nurse practitioner that Monday and she said yes, it was ligament pain.  Anyway, it did go away and it has not come back, but I do feel it was ironic it happened just after I had lifted those stupid lead vests.  I have switched and am now using the lighter ones.....   : )

Do get it checked out if it doesn't go away or if it gets worse.

I don't mean to scare you, but things can happen like appendicitis.  I experienced abdominal pain, right sided for the first 3 months of my pregnancy.

They kept telling me it was normal (I saw about 4 different gastro drs and they all said nothing to worry about - some without even doing a proper history or examination).  Until it got so bad after a workout that I could hardly walk and then I went to the ER and finally was admitted. THey thought it would improve with rest, but the pain only got worse.  Drs couldn't agree on problem and symptoms weren't so classic.  4 days later they finally did exploratory surgery at the insistence of my obe (I was 12 weeks pregnant at that stage) only to find I had appendicitis and probably had had it for 3 months or more....  My baby turned out fine, thankfully.

I also have another friend who had acute appendicitis early in her pregnancy..... that's when she found out she was pregnant.

All chances are it is round ligament.  But don't ignore it if it bothers you.  Keep getting it checked by your doctor.

Your body is going through all kinds of crazy changes and cramps and twinges come with the territory.  You did the right thing in checking in with your Dr. and it sounds like there is nothing to be concerned about.  I started experiencing round ligament pain around 15 weeks or so and there are times it can stop you in your tracks.  It really hurts.  Other normal cramps are menstural like cramps, etc.  They will come and go and it's pretty normal. But always always check with your Dr. if it doesn't feel right.  It's always better to err on the side of caution.  Good luck!

It might be round ligament pain.  it usually happen around 16 or 17 weeks, but maybe because you're having twins you feel it sooner.  Drink room temperature water, or hot tea and just relax.  I had it pretty bad.  It went away after 1 week.
