Amnio done yesterday...waiting for the FISH results

So I did Amnio yesterday. It really did take less than a minute - well, at least the procedure itself. The doctor was very skilled and nice. As per many posts here re: amnio, I did my homework and research on doctors at the facility I go. I chose one of the better ones and he was great. I am rambling because...I am nervous and on the edge until I get THAT call from the doctor's office, I guess...

My nuchal measurement read 1.6 and first blood work results show 1:88 (risk cut-off 1:50 and age risk was 1:25) for DS and 1:2,300 (or 3,200) for Trisomy 13 and 18. I chose to skip the second blood test and go ahead with Amnio. I know my risks are not very high but I can't help worrying about it. And even my hubby doesn't seem to understand...This is my second pregnancy and my first one was quite uneventful as long as mental and physical health wise. I was lucky that way... Perhaps worrying too much is another downside of being pregnant at an advanced age...:)

I guess I am sharing this because I feel indebted to those MH members who share their experience and/or leave warm, kind and positive posts to questions. Thank you all... Just please fingers crossed for me that this girl inside is healthy and happy one...

When do you usually get a call for FISH results? One day or two days???

We do a bit of both, but my particular role is focused on those that are in shelter.  Are you guys also part of the 10 year plan?  I would love to chat more with you.  Sounds like we have an awful lot in common!

Thanks again. I wanted to scream too but I was in the parking lot near a courthouse where a group of unhappy and disgruntled people just came out after their court hearings. So, I refrained myself...:)

Interesting that you work at an agency for the Homeless...I work in an agency to help prevent people from becoming homeless. Hope I'm not taking your job away :).

Wishing you all the best in your endeavor to a second child. Since I got pregnant easily both times, I have to confess that I don't have much knowledge in TTC but I will do research and post useful info if and when I find anything. I feel at least that's what I can do to give back to MH for what I received from you members.

Thank you all.

Oh my gosh that was fast!  Yay!!!!  Now you can kick up those feet, relax and enjoy every moment!!!  I am so happy for you!  I remember when I got that call, I was at work.  I literally let out a scream..lol.  Everyone came running to see what was going on (I work in an agency for the Homeless, and sometimes there are problems, so people tend to respond very quickly to screams and yells). It was quite a moment.  Congratulations!!

Thanks so much Amanda. I couldn't wait any more and so, I called the doctor's office. The lady there said that they didn't get the results from the lab yet and that she would call me as soon as they get them. Agh!!!!!! I really hope that they call me tomorrow so that I don't have to ruin the weekend worrying about it!!!

I am so glad to hear your experience was like mine.  The nervousness leading up to it was for worse then the procedure for me as well.

I had FISH as well.  I had the procedure on a thursday and got the call either the monday or tuesday if I remember correctly.  Remember, my odds were 1:13 and still all was well.

If this was what you needed to do to not worry, then good for you!  That was my reasoning as well.  I needed to know and be prepared for whatever lay ahead.  Now, just a few more days and you will get that call letting you know your baby girl is typical!!
