Extremely stressed out about Amnio results!! Please help

Hi, I don't know if I am over reacting, but being pregnant the first time at 39 is not easy.  I went for my Amnio on 11/12.  I was told by my Ob at that time that I will have the reults in 10 days.  Since then I have called twice and was told that they don't have my results.  My Amnio review with my Ob was scheduled for today, so when I called his office this morning to check if my results have come in, I was told no but they would have an answer in another hour.  I called back an hour later and was told that the cells are dividing slowly and they will not have the until Thursday, which is 21 days after the amnio was done.  I am really worried.  Does this mean that they are trying to put off sharing the inevitable with me?  I something wrong with my baby.  I am so stressed, because the nurse kept saying that this was extremely unusual and they always receive the results in 10 days, this wsa the first time etc.  I don't know what to do.  Please help!!!!

Geez, what a pain! I can't imagine waiting so long. I can only think that if they did screw up, maybe they'd ask you to have another one, but I also agree with the ladies. If there was any news to tell, I'm sure they wouldn't hesitate to call you. It just really seems like too long to wait. Are you calling them daily? I feel for you ;(

Thank you so much for your support it means a lot to me.  No still no results as yet.  Today it will be 21 days since I had the test and that is why I am so concerned.  I was told that results are given anywhere between 8 - 10 days.  I don't know if they will make me do the amnio again , is that even possible ?  At this point all I can do is wait.

I don't think there is anything to worry abou.  Part of the amnio procedure is to grow the cells in the lab so the they can be examined.  I believe this is probably what your doctor's office was referring to.  Here is some detailed information on the laboratory procedure itself.

I also think that doctors are always faster to give bad news than good ones - at least to protect themselves! Maybe there was a delay because of Thanksgiving??

I think bad news would be delivered quicker than good news (which they sometimes don't even remember to share) so I think I would try and relax (I know, not possible during pregnancy)... I was pregnant first time at 39 and I can relate, hopefully you can find something to occupy yourself until Thursday so you don't obsess about it til then.

So sorry it's taking so long!! I can't imagine why it would be delayed but I agree with Amanda-- in my experience, doctors are not shy about delivering news. I seriously doubt they are dragging their feet on telling you something.

If anything, I'd bet there was a screwup at the lab or something dumb like that, and they don't want to admit it, so they're just trying to catch up now.

Waiting for test results is the absolute worst and I know it can seem like an eternity.  I wouldn't think that a delay in results is any reason for concern though.  I think they would just tell you if there was a problem.  I'm sure all is fine, hang in there, you should have answers soon now.

I'm so sorry you're having to go through this stress! ;( Having the amnio is stressful enough. I waited 8 days for my results, so I know it's not easy. Did your ob's office do the amnio? I'm just wondering if there's someone else you can call. I know it's hard, but please stay positive & I'll say an extra prayer for your little one. Update when you get your results.
