First Natural Pregnancy

VUE
I am 40 years old and have been trying to get pregnant for almost 3 years.  I have tried IUI 3 times.  I had IVF in July and had a positive pregnancy test at the beginning of August.  However, my BETA numbers dropped after a week and I got my period on August 31st.  I got shingles 2 weeks ago.  And then one week ago I took a pregnancy test because I hadn't gotten my period, and I was shocked to see "pregnant".  I called my OBGYN office and I will finally go in this week.  How should I treat this?  Should I be calling my infertility clinic?  Should I be taking progstrene?  Are the shingles related to me getting pregnant?

Thanks for any advice!

Hi,
If you don't mind me asking, I would like to know what you did to aid in getting pregnant.  I am 42, and we have been ttc naturally for 8 months.

Thank you for anything you could tell me.

Congratulations!

Weird about the shingles. As you probably now, they're a sign of low immunity, and in a person as young as you, usually caused by stress and exhaustion. Be good to yourself! Although the pregnany may not be related to the shingles, ironically being pregnant may allow you to heal from them faster, as Morther Nature throws all her weight in behind you.

I had shingles two years ago after a severe emotional trauma.

Anyway, as the others say, see your doctor, and do all the usual stuff. Best of luck - and DO update us on how it's going!

At my clinic, the RE follows you for the first three months to ensure the viability of the pregnancy and then refers to the OB/GYN, so I would call them as well to find out what they recommend.  I would also request the progesterone if that's the protocol your RE or OBGYN uses.

Hi,

congratulations.

I doubt the shingles has anything to do with anything, though maybe it was triggered by the pregnancy?  I guess the infertility clinic is no longer relevant (though of course they should hear of the happy news) and the key person from now will be your obstetrician.  Contact them asap.  They would be able to tell you if you need progesterone or not.

Let us know how you go.
