anyone had experiences with anti depressants and pergnancy

am on 20mg paroxetine at the moment i have been on it for 7 years, I was off it for 6 months and after 3 months of that time i went straight back into severe health anxiety.

I was trying for a bay, that's why i came off.

I know i will want to try again in the future can anyone tell me if they have had babies on anti depressants ? what type as mine is an ssri and works perfectly! was their baby healthy also did you need to go for extra scans and check ups.

Thank you for you answer as this means the world to me

Hi ladies, I have also posted my concern on this board.  I have recently been suffering from anxiety, panics and OCD.  I have been prescribed to take 20mg of paroxetine (paxil) but I am so nervous about it causing birth defects should I become pregnant.  Because of my symptoms, my Dr. said prozac would probably not be helpful.  Either paxil or Effexor...I know past studies had shown for Paxil to be linked to heart defects but now they are saying no (Motherisk Hospital for Sick Chrildren).  Can someone else give some insight on the absoluate safety of this drug.  Mr. Dr. said if Motherisk says its safe then I should not worry however I want to know for certain before TTC while on it.  Please help. Thanks.

I have been on Prozac since I was 19 (I'm 36) now and have never gone off of it.  I'm 19 weeks pregnant with my first baby (after having a m/c last year).  Baby is looking really good so far.

HI,
I also take anti depressants from time to time.
I have a top NYC Obgyn and RE and neither one suggested I stop taking prozac while I was pregnant or trying to concieve.
I think they may wean you off if you become pregnant and move into the late second trimester, but not before then.
It will not harm the baby - only your anxiety and depression can hurt the baby or the ability to concieve.  I take prozac, so check with your Dr to see if one may be better than another.
