Oh I'm definitely having one with this pregnancy if they offer!!! You bet!! I didn't with my first, did with my second and man was it so much better! Nothing like feeling like you can actually push a baby out without pooping on it!! I would much rather get an enema and let it all out before hand and deal with the stink for a little while. Just shut the door and leave the light on in the bathroom after your done and the exhaust fan will suck up the stink! I am telling you, there is nothing that your doctor or nurse hasn't seen but trust me, I do not want my baby to be sh*t on when he first comes into this world.. ahahaha Plus, they say that if you have so much in there while trying to push your baby out it can actually hinder the process a little bit, along with urinating, (tis why I will also opt for a catheter!) I figure I can endure a little more pain having my baby! It's only for a little while afterall and besides.. if they give me an epidural I won't feel it anyways!!
you all are`wat too much LOL
didnt get one and was a lil shocked as things started moving...I was a lil embarassed to call the nurse and tell her I thought i needed to go and she walked in and said ....ooh yeah honey.....a lil embarassing but she said it ment things were moving down.....I'm a pooper to begin with LOL....and she was used to it
Yikes. I'm thinking I might just cr@p myself...The alternative seems much more traumatic!
LOL! This is hillarious! I posted elsewhere about how the only thing that was bad about labor was the enema. And your idea of the nurse w/ an IV bag is RIGHT ON! The huge hand part...not so sure..hehe. Anyhoo...it's a warm solution of gosh knows what and the nurse will have you lay on your side and put the tube in your hiney. Then the water starts flowing and she'll say to let her know when you can't take it anymore. Uh HELLO! About a teaspoon went in and I was begging for it to stop. Needless to say she wouldn't and I just about went on myself on the way to the bathroom. It was awful! I would have opted out of it but my dr. required it. I guess he's had some bad experiences......If I have a choice this time, I'm passing!
I had one w/my 1st baby many moons ago. The nurses did the enema when they 'prepped' you (i.e. inserted the i.v., did a cervix check, took vitals for the 1st time, etc). It was uncomfortable. I wasn't in active labor yet as my water had broken a couple of hours earlier. I don't know if they do one if you're really in the active phase. The device was kind of scary looking but I remember the nurse being very gentle. I had to have one post-op (c-section) too and that one wasn't quite as uncomfortable. I kind of wish I would have one before my c-section to 'clean' everything out but I doubt they do that (I didn't have one w/my other planned c-sections).
didn't have one with my other two and didn't ****.. but.... when and how do they do it? do you ask for it... have to say with dh I am much more embarassed that with my ex... maybe cuz this marriage is newer... don't know... but do they do it while you are in labor or what???
All I can say is thank heavens I am having a c-section!!!
Now I did have an enema for a colonoscopy one time and I had to drink this stuff called (in all seriousness) Golightly that you buy over the counter. Let's just say you don't Go-lightly. Not sure what hospital protocol is.
P.S. I love you guys and the fact we can discuss this stuff!
Thanks everyone.
I hate to ask this, but how does it actually work? I have this image of nurse with huge hands and a big IV bag of some sort that she shoves up there.
I haven't ever had one on any of my births, but I SHOULD have gotten one on my last one. He was posterior, and so he was VERY hard to push out. I pushed for an hour and a half. Needless to say....I should have gotten an enema!!!!
For the next baby, I plan on it. It's embarrassing afterwards when you know everyone saw you poop!!!!
Now I DID have to have one after he was born, like a week later. I was SOOO constipated. My DH had to help me as I could not reach myself when laying on my stomach with my butt in the air!!! I was REALLY embarrassed and it took me about 10 trys of starting to lay down, and then getting back up saying, "Honey, I just CAN'T!! I'm too embarrassed!!" And I made him do it almost in the DARK!!!! But I agree, boy do they work. It doesn't hurt at all, just feels "weird". You hold it in as long as you can, and then you just cut loose!!! Sorry TMI!!!!!
It aint fun. It aint pretty. But BOY did it work. Made the labor WAY more effective and the delivery was much less "crappy?"!!!!!!!!!
