Low Estriol in Triple Test

My wife and I got the results of the Triple Test today (done at 16-weeks). The ultrasound was normal and the AFP and hCG levels are fine. However, the estriol is substantially low. The genetics doctor that gave the results simply said that at 37 years old this result means that my wife has a risk of 1 in 93 of having a baby with Down Syndrome. She recommended doing amniocentesis, which we are not really wanting to do.

The internet can be a dangerous thing though, as I have now been trying to understand this better and what I am reading is really scaring me. Has anyone on here had normal ultrasounds with norms AFP and hCG levels, but low estriol (UE3). If so, what was the result?

Thanks.

Would say your risk is very low.  92/93 that everything is fine.  Plus this is further supported by the ultrasound and otehr great results.

This test is also only a screen, not diagnostic and there is a high rate of false positive (but your test was not positive).

Don't be pushed into anything you don't want.

Congratulations on your baby.

could you please tell me the result of low estriol?

My wife 's Triple Test result is also  substantially low (done at 36-weeks). The ultrasound was normal and the AFP and hCG levels are fine.
